National Debt Clock as of November 8, 2025 (Photo by Lynn Woolley for WB Daily)

America has a lot of problems and some are genuine crises.

Weirdly, some of these are vastly more important to the political Left than to the Right, and vice versa.  The Left thinks the presidency of Donald Trump is a crisis.  But that hasn’t quite taken the place of Climate Change, which is now a more subtle religion for most progressives.

On the other side of the aisle, and mostly ignored by the Left, is the breakdown of the traditional family, the failure of our educational system, and the loss of a well-defined American identity.

The Right also worries about the threat of radical Islam and socialism and Communism with the election of Zohran Mamdani in New York, as well as the China threat, and the National Debt.

Perhaps artificial Intelligence can help us solve these crises – except that AI itself is also on the list.

AUDIO:  Random Samplings of a Logical Mind

Crises change from generation to generation.

Back in the days of J. Robert Oppenheimer, virtually everyone on the planet lost sleep over the threat of Mutual Assured Destruction from nuclear weapons.  That threat is vastly more real today than then, but nobody worries much about it.  It seems too horrible for even Vladimir Putin or Xi Jinping to contemplate.

RELATED:  Problems We Can’t Solve

Besides, if you’re a political junkie, it’s more fun to see where we go with crises that mirror the ideology of progressives or conservatives.  I chose seven crises that come to mind, and set them up in what I consider to be reverse order.  That means we’ll end with number one, which to me, is what poses the most danger.

Crisis #7:  Climate Change

Ho-hum.  Not many people seem to care much about this crisis anymore since Trump won a second term.  There’re diehards out there; in fact, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson recently attended a climate conference in Rio de Janeiro.  He came back to town and issued a release on it with all the old talking points that have never come to pass.

Even one of the world’s richest men, Microsoft’s Bill Gates, has shifted his position on this issue from one of a “doomsday scenario” to a more pragmatic one of “human welfare.”  In short, this is a crisis – if it is one at all – that we can’t do much about.  Let’s focus on clean water and clean air and move on.  Earth will be fine.

Video:  Bill Gates warns about Climate Change alarmism

Crisis #6:  The presidency of Donald Trump

This one is good for a few laughs, especially if you thought the presidency of Joe Biden was a crisis.

What did Biden do?  He immediately opened up the southern border and let millions of illegals cross over including drug dealers, cartel members, pushers of fentanyl, rapists, murderers, and human traffickers.  He also overlooked the Constitution when he wanted to, such as when he tried to forgive student loan debt.  He was known as the “Big Guy” in his family business of selling influence.  Under his watch, government spending went crazy resulting in the high consumer costs we have today.

What did Trump do?  He secured the southern border, tapped down the most insane parts of the liberal agenda such as sex-change and men playing in women’s sports.  You may not like his tariffs, but his accomplishment in the first year of the second term are stunning.  Joe Biden never came close to a peace deal in the Middle East.  He never had the guts to take out Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Trump’s methods are unconventional, but if there was a “crisis” presidency in the last decade, it was that of Joe Biden.

Crisis #5:  The threats of Communist China and Radical Islam

This one is very real.  The Red Chinese have a 100-year plan to take over the world.  They’re patient.  They want to invade Taiwan, and maybe they will – and then what?  The Democrats carp about “Russian interference,” but China is likely a bigger problem along those lines, with tentacles into our social media and our educational system and possibly even into the halls of Congress.

Video:  Biden says Chinese spy balloon was not a security breach

China sent a high-altitude balloon flying over the United States in January 2023 that carried intelligence-gathering equipment.  President Biden said it was no big deal.

RELATED:  Who are the Democratic Socialists of America?

Meanwhile, in New York, get ready for the United States’ first radical Islamic mayor.  New York joins London as a world-class city with an Islamic mayor.  Remember, New York was the main city attacked by Islamic terrorists on 9-11.  How quickly the voters forgot about that.  Russia is a minor player compared to these two threats, both of which are quite existential.

Crisis #4:  Colleges, Universities, and Culture Rot

College campuses are where American culture goes to die.  President Trump has famously had feuds with Harvard and Columbia.  These and other campuses are springboards for the new, left-wing-approved racism of antisemitism.  Colleges are festering with progressive professors who hate America, and who hate our system of capitalism.  What we used to call “multi-culturalism,” and now call “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” is the new racist trope that America is split into the “oppressed” and the “oppressors.”

Students often graduate with huge student loan debt and with an indoctrination that America is a terrible country, born in the original sin of slavery.  We used to have something called the Melting Pot, out of which, came a blended culture that was born of the best aspects of many lands.  E Pluribus Unum is still on our coins, but we don’t really practice that anymore.

Our colleges and universities are badly broken, but who will fix them?

Crisis #3:  The Breakup of the Traditional Family

The traditional family consists of a mother (female), a father (male) as role models for children, and probably a dog or a cat.  Boys learn how to be men from their dads and what a woman is from their moms.  Girls have a mom as a role model but see their dads as a strong protector of house and home.  It worked that way for 10,000 years.

Now, we have areas in big cities such as Chicago where fathers are as rare as a complete sentence from Kamala Harris.  Lots of big cities are infested with gangs, and children get caught in the crossfire, and they die.  In an even somewhat-perfect world, little boys would have dads to take them to baseball games, teach them how to treat girls, and even help them with homework.  That seems so quaint now.

In today’s inner city hip-hop culture, the F-word is often what young kids learn first.  A family may consist of a single parent, almost always the woman, with several kids from different fathers and enabled by generous welfare programs.  Some families now consist of a woman and her wife or a man and his husband – all to the detriment of the traditional family.  Is this a crisis? — yes!  Is it solvable?  Probably not.  Not unless the country decides to make men financially responsible for the children they create, and to curb or end welfare programs that make all this depravity possible.

Yes, folks, government created this problem with welfare and the left-wing idea that the traditional family is obsolete.  This crisis is off the charts, mostly because Congress is too dysfunctional or too left-wing to take action.

Crisis #2:  Artificial Intelligence

Maybe AI will cure cancer and solve some of the other crises.  But first it’s going to plunge us into a dystopian hell where we may never know if a new artist is even a real person.  Already, there are singers from the fifties up on You Tube with some pretty cool tunes you may not remember.  That’s because the song, the image, and the music are all created by AI.  And companies like Amazon are invariably going to replace all the jobs they can with AI, likely causing a depression if it happens too fast for new jobs to be created.

RELATED:  Could Humans Become Obsolete (PODCAST)

Artificial Intelligence is that rare crisis that has many benefits, but that also comes with grave dangers.  AI could render virtually all desk jobs obsolete.  We already have driverless cars, and trucks and planes will be next.  Robot surgeons (guided by human doctors) have been performing operations for years and as they get better at it, will we need human surgeons?  AI has its good points and will make life very easy, especially for students who can use it to generate an essay in about 10 seconds.

But will it destroy our humanity?  Has it already started the process?  Should we stop it now before it begins to control everything?

Crisis #1:  The National Debt

This crisis trumps all the others because the United States is on the verge of not being able to pay its bills.  Imagine a government shutdown that is permanent.  That’s what will happen when government spending and borrowing gets so out of control that all the GDP goes to pay the interest.  We are now at $38,000,000,000,000 in debt.  Some members of Congress recognize this, but there aren’t enough of them to make a difference.

Virtually all the Democrats and a great deal of the Republicans are in a kick-the-can mode where they have to keep their constituents happy right now in order to get reelected – and to hell with future generations.  Most government shutdowns are about the Republicans trying to hold down spending and the Democrats wanting to do more of it and exert more government control over such things as student loans and healthcare.

Video:  The National Debt crisis explained, but it’s much worse now than when this was posted

There is a fiscal cliff coming where we won’t be able to kick the can.  At that point we become a third-world country.  Congress will wake up and see it coming, but the train will be speeding down the tracks and it will not be stoppable. It will be too late.  When the full faith and credit of the United States government means nothing, we will have no country.  What’s the tipping point?  We’re at $38 trillion in debt now.  Is it $50 trillion?  $100 trillion?  At the rate Congress spends, we may soon know.

Note that the next category of debt will move from “trillions” to “quadrillions” and that each number in the sequence is a thousand times larger than the one before it.

The worst part about these crises is that all of them exist at the same time.

Maybe a dysfunctional Congress could fix one of these threats.  Maybe two.  But I doubt it.  The two parties hate each other and will not work together to solve anything.  Which crisis will eventually destroy us?  My guess is the National Debt will weaken us and China will make its move.  On the other hand, by that time, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and Austin may have radical Islamic mayors.  Or maybe AI will recognize these threats and save us from them.  If that’s our best hope, we’re in trouble.

RELATED: We could have a functioning immigration system if we had a functioning Congress

The optimist in me says that maybe – just maybe – we’ll have better politicians in the pipeline some day that will see these issues and move to fix them.  It’s a faint hope, but the United States of America is the best country that’s ever existed and its time isn’t up just yet.

Democrats would just as soon two of these events fade from memory. Republicans charge Democrats with using the other one for political purposes.

There are even disputes over which of these events was the deadliest.

One figure given for the Black Lives Matter riots is 19.  But PolitiFact says, wait a minute. You can’t blame BLM for all them.

On January 6, just one person was killed by a Capitol policeman.  But the Left says within 36 hours, 5 people who were there had died.

In Biden’s Afghanistan Withdrawal, we know that 13 American servicemen and woman died.  How many Afghans died is impossible to know.

Random Samplings is brought to you by the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

These three events are perhaps the most consequential in recent American history.

Each of these events ought to be considered when deciding which of the two major political parties ought to be running the United States.  Consider:

“Cuomo Prime Time” 6-1-20 on CNN promoting “peaceful protestors.” Photo by Lynn Woolley for WBDaily.

The Black Lives Matter riots, joined in by Antifa and who knows who else, were in response to the death-by-cop of a street thug who was drugged up and who was trying to pass a counterfeit bill.  Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin was wrong to put his knee to George Floyd’s neck for nine minutes, but that doesn’t make him a murderer.  The death didn’t make Floyd a saint either, but that’s what the Left wanted, and that’s how the media played it.

Wikipedia claims that up to 96 percent of the protests were peaceful, and CNN will never live down the screenshot showing Kenosha, Wisconsin burning while the graphic says “Fiery but mostly peaceful protests…”

The January Six Capitol Breach was in response to an election, hugely affected by the Pandemic, that many on the Right saw as fixed.  They had been told that 81,000,000 people voted for Joe Biden which remains hard to believe.  If the Left used the Pandemic to change state laws (illegally), and collude with the media to suppress stories such as the Hunter Biden Laptop, the protesters had a point.

Storming the Capitol was over the top.  This is what violent Democrats typically do, while violent Republicans typically do not exist.  It never should have happened.  But then again, the United States was formed out of an insurrection.  That’s not what this was, but it was still not a good thing.

The Afghanistan Withdrawal is in a class by itself, fueled by a weak president’s hatred of Donald Trump and his desire to get out, regardless of the consequences.  From what we’re seeing from Rep. Michael McCaul’s (R-TX) House Foreign Affairs Committee, it’s not so much that the Biden administration had a weak plan; they had no plan at all.

An honorable president would have resigned in shame.  Biden, however, took a Hillary-esqe attitude of what difference does it make?  We got out, didn’t we?  Goal accomplished, and so what if people died?  After all, Biden lost his son, so he can relate.

Of the three events under discussion, this is the one you ought to take into consideration the most when you vote.  After all, following this show of weakness, we’ve seen two wars break out, and I think there’s a definite case and effect.

Video:  This is a live Facebook feed I did from downtown Austin at a Black Lives Matter rally on May 20, 2020.

So, how many people died?

In trying to research this, it’s obvious that the Black Lives Matter riots are quite easy to spin.  It depends on the source, and which side is writing the account.

RELATED:  DEREK CHAUVIN AND O.J. SIMPSON AT THE OPPOSITE ENDS OF INJUSTICE

Wikipedia quotes Forbes in saying that 19 people were killed in the riots.  That includes a 77-year-old retired police officer, David Dorn, who happened to be black – and a BLM protester in Austin, Garrett Foster, who was shot and killed by a ride-share driver, Daniel Perry, who felt threatened by Foster’s AK-47.  On the other hand, PolitiFact says you can’t blame BLM for all the deaths because lots of people participated in the riots.

Screenshot: CNN’s most famous graphic from Kenosha, Wisconsin

Januarysixthmas, as we call the left-wing holiday here at WBDaily, involves a much smaller number than the other two events.  In fact, strictly speaking, just one person was killed during the breach.  That occurred when Capitol Police Officer Michael Byrd shot protester Ashli Babbitt (an Air Force veteran).  Note that Byrd did not get charged, convicted, and sent to prison as Derek Chauvin did.

RELATED: CELEBRATING JANUARYSIXTHMAS ALL YEAR LONG

If you want the full number of deaths that might be attributed to the breach, then the number moves to five – including a drug overdose, two from heart failure, and Officer Brian Sicknick.  You’ll recall false reports that he had been struck with a fire extinguisher, but later we learned that he suffered two strokes following the breach, and that the events of the day likely played a role in the stokes.  Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put the number of dead at “almost ten,” including some officers who were at the scene but died later.  Four officers are reported to have died of suicide in the months following.  So, pick your number.

Deaths resulting from the Afghanistan Withdrawal are much harder to document.  We know that 13 American servicemen and women died in Kabul.  During a hearing, Kelly Barnett told U.S. House members about her son, Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, who was killed in the suicide bombing at the Hamid Karzai International Airport.  You’ll remember the tragic footage of hundreds of Afghans trying to get on planes to flee the country.  Barnett testified that military officials lied to her about her son’s death.

The number of dead Afghans extends far beyond that day.  Al Jazeera, the best source we could find, claims up to 1,000 have been murdered by the Taliban – and that’s not a current number.  If you believe, as I do, that the Afghanistan Withdrawal disaster led to wars in Ukraine and Israel, then the number of deaths shoots into the stratosphere.

These three events are all worthy of your consideration when you vote.

None of these three events is anything to be proud of.

One concerns an extended nationwide riot over race relations, which has been downplayed by both government and media because of political considerations.  One comes out of a dispute between political factions over whether an election was stolen, and has become a virtual holiday for one side.  One amounts to the biggest political and military blunder of our time – and perhaps of all time – committed by a president of the United States.

I will be keeping these three events in mind when I enter the voting booth.  I hope you will as well.

The Constitution does not mention immigration.

So, in this fight between Governor Greg Abbott and Joe Biden, where does Biden get the idea that he’s in control?  Actually, he’s not.  What powers the Constitution grants are to Congress, and the president’s role is to enforce those laws.

There are two supporting clauses that give hope to both sides.

The “Naturalization Clause” grants powers to Congress that court decisions have expanded to cover immigration.  The “Guarantee Clause” promises that states shall be protected against invasion.

Biden is relying on the argument that naturalization encompasses immigration and that he is enforcing existing laws.  Abbott has declared an invasion, and if he’s right, he may prevail.

Random Samplings is brought to you by the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

It comes down to three questions:

First, in spite of what court have ruled, does Congress’ power over naturalization imply power over immigration?

Second, is Joe Biden enforcing the laws that Congress has passed – noting that both he and former President Trump issued executive orders which do not carry the power of law in a strict interpretation of the Constitution?

Third, is it enough that Abbott has declared an invasion, based on what the Framers actually meant by that term?

The Naturalization Clause

In Article I, Section 8, Clause 4. The Constitution says:

“The Congress shall have power to establish a uniform rule of naturalization.”

Naturalization, of course is the process by which a citizen of another country presumably tosses that aside to become a citizen of the United States.  It is the process of investing citizenship in aliens, and it must not be taken lightly.  It is, however.

The invaluable Heritage Guide to the Constitution (Regnery, 2005)

As Joseph Bessette writes in The Heritage Guide to the Constitution, so-called “dual citizenship” has become the norm.  According to Bessette, since 1795, Congress required that all candidates for U.S. citizenship ship must formally renounce their allegiance to their native country.  That’s still in our laws and still part of the citizenship oath.  But it doesn’t seem to matter much, as U.S. citizenship has been cheapened.  Bessette goes on to say that millions of Americans are also citizens of other countries, whose native countries don’t even recognize any renunciation of loyalties.

And then, there’s birthright citizenship.

A woman sneaks into Texas to have a baby, and her child is automatically a U.S. citizen – according to the courts, but not to the Constitution as evidenced in the Fourteenth Amendment.  In addition, some Americans are the children of one American parent and one foreign parent, and according to Bessette, derive citizenship from both.  It’s a mess.  And since naturalization has become blurred in the courts, so has immigration.

Abbott’s position is bolstered by the fact that naturalization and immigration are, by definition, two different things.  But Biden is helped by the fact that courts have tied them together.   Biden can refer to long-standing Supreme Court rulings giving “plenary” power over immigration to Congress to decide what foreign nationals can enter and stay in the United States.

The question whether Biden – or Trump – can make immigration law by executive order may stand with which side you are on.  My point of view is that such executive orders are illegal under constitutional separation of powers.

The question of whether Joe Biden [whom I will not refer to as President] has faithfully executed our laws seems obvious.  Illegal immigration is, you know – illegal.  By opening the borders, Joe Biden is not enforcing the law, and therefore could and likely ought to be impeached and removed for it.  That’s true regardless of which party controls Congress.

The Guarantee Clause

Now, we move to Article IV, Section 4, which states:

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion…”

A “Republican” form of government simply meant that the federal government would be accountable to the people – or those who vote, and that there be no king or queen to rule us.  In The Heritage Guide to the Constitution, Robert G. Natelson writes that the part about invasion was designed to prevent a “sectional” president from refusing to defend certain parts of the United States from foreign attack.

In a paper entitled “The Meaning of Invasion Under the Compact Clause of the U.S. Constitution,” the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Joshua Treviño (November 29, 2022) writes about what the Framers believed would constitute an invasion.  He aimed to clarify whether a U.S. state has the constitutional right to use its military powers to defend itself from such an invasion—pending an appeal to Congress for its decision and aid.  Here are his key points:

  • The American history of the term “invasion” reveals that its literal meaning is entry plus enmity: Entry alone, which is trespass, is not sufficient to constitute an invasion.
  • Although the Framers occasionally used “invade” in a metaphorical sense, we know that in the Compact Clause they used the word in its literal sense, because that clause’s ancestor text in the Articles of Confederation refers to invasion “by enemies.”
  • Past non-state actors, like pirates and barbarians, fell under the category of “invaders” in the opinion of certain American statesmen, such as Madison.
  • Present-day non-state actors, like cartel-affiliated gangs operating within the territory of a U.S. state, may fall under the category of invaders, provided their criminal activity reaches a scale or degree of organization that deliberately overthrows or curtails the lawful sovereignty of the state.

How does his relate to Abbott versus Biden in today’s border crisis?

Like so much in current American politics, it may come down to which side you are on.  The Framers may have envisioned an invasion, say from Spain or England – a fighting force from a single country attempting to overthrow the United States.  But today, we’re seeing “migrants,” as they are termed in the Mainstream Media, from a plethora of countries.

And what about “enmity?”

Those who are coming for jobs or for asylum might not be classified as enemies, but what about the cartels, the gangs, the terrorists, the human traffickers, the criminals, and those who come across bringing deadly diseases with them?  These are the people that Biden ignores in his zeal to transform America.

So, who’s right – Abbott or Biden?

When the mayors of America’s largest cities complain about the open borders, you know there’s a problem.  The answer seems simple: enforce the law.  Biden isn’t going to do that; he’s made it clear in words and actions.  Texas Governor Greg Abbott is looking at the reality on the ground and saying that Biden must be stopped.

The only real solution, other than voting in a new administration with a different point of view, is to impeach Biden and remove him.  That is not practical since a Democrat-controlled Senate would not convict him.

Biden likely will win on the basis of Supreme Court precedent, as evidenced by the recent High Court opinion over razor wire.  Two conservative justices – Chief Justice John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett – joined the three court liberals to hand a victory to Joe Biden.  If they were ruling on the basis of constitutional law and precedent, they can hardly be criticized for their opinions.

There is a however, however.  People are entering the United States by the millions, they are coming here illegally, and the current occupant of the White House is not lifting a hand to stop it.  On the question of the unilateral transformation of the United States of America without anyone voting on it, Abbott has the high ground.

The word for a head-of-state that makes life-altering, consequential decisions on his own, often going against the best interests of the people is:  dictator.  All things considered, Biden may not have the Constitution completely on his side, but he likely has the courts.  That means the upcoming election will be the final opportunity to remove him from office and restore the rule of law to our immigration system.

The post Warning! Public Alert Test Scheduled appeared first on WB Daily.

]]>
The federal government has scheduled a national warning test for Wednesday, Oct. 4, but how truly might this system be used?

Per the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) website, the agency “in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a national test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) on Oct. 4, 2023.”

An agency news release notes “Test Messages Will be Sent to All TVs, Radios and Cell Phones” and describes the action as follows:

FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this fall.

The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. This will be the third nationwide test, but the second test to all cellular devices. The test message will display in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset.

The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions. This will be the seventh nationwide EAS test.

Per the release, FEMA in partnership with the FCC is “coordinating with EAS participants, wireless providers, emergency managers and other stakeholders in preparation for this national test to minimize confusion and to maximize the public safety value of the test.”

It further states:

The purpose of the Oct. 4 test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the back-up testing date is Oct. 11.

About what might we be warned?

These two tests are to determine EAS and WEA capabilities, but what are the specific warning profiles of these two programs?

Ready.gov offers this:

Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) are short emergency messages from authorized federal, state, local, tribal and territorial public alerting authorities that can be broadcast from cell towers to any WEA‐enabled mobile device in a locally targeted area. WEAs can be sent by state and local public safety officials, the National Weather Service, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the President of the United States.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national public warning system that allows the president to address the nation within 10 minutes during a national emergency. State and local authorities may also use the system to deliver important emergency information such as weather information, imminent threats, AMBER alerts and local incident information targeted to specific areas.

Alerting the public to potentially severe weather is certainly a valid and customary use for warning systems. But 2020 and the ensuing “pandemic culture” taught many people (and confirmed for others of us) that government warnings, directions or mandates should be viewed with discernment.

But are all threats created equal or are some just created?

An effective alert system can warn a population of practical threats. In recent years, however, we’ve also learned that an alert system or other government-controlled apparatus can also be used to propagate the existence of “threats” which may or may not be truly credible. Mask mandates, lockdowns, forced vaccines also taught us that questionable agendas may also be imbedded within government warnings.

On his Who is Robert Malone Substack, Dr. Malone discussed the last years’ promotion of “The Big Fear”:

From the very beginning, the COVIDcrisis has been hyped and promoted by a variety of sources as a potential extinction event– a crisis threat level which is completely inconsistent with the actual measured case fatality rate. And now “Climate Change” is being actively promoted as an existential crisis because it could lead to extinction of the human race – or at a minimum extinction of human existence as we know it. And the prospect of nuclear war is often presented as the granddaddy of all extinction boundaries.

Global corporate media has been collaborating with western governments to repeatedly promote chronic anxiety and fear of catastrophic extinction events consequent to infectious diseases, environmental disasters, energy depletion, and nuclear war for decades. The most profound form of fear mongering: promoting the fear of human extinction. And now we are experiencing a decade in which all of this fearporn is being accelerated and amplified to a dizzying pace by widespread deployment of military-grade psy-ops technologies on civilian populations via an alliance between corporate media and the western “five eyes” intelligence community. Fifth Generation warfare.

We are told these threats exist and without a dramatic altering of our behaviors and lifestyles, the seeds to our destruction are sowed.

Meanwhile, disregard the numerous issues impacting American lives on a daily basis, issues either ignored or addressed with “spin” that is often disingenuous except to the most naïve, unperceptive or lazy/disengaged of our population. Issues such as:

  • a steady, ever-growing invasion of our nation via (largely though not exclusively) the southern border;
  • rising inflation and economic pressures not seen in four or more decades;
  • increasingly obvious unrestricted warfare assaults by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) including – and again, not limited to – bioweapons (COVID-19), chemical weapons (fentanyl), economic warfare (supply chain, currency manipulation, etc.), cyber-attacks (corporate/institutional breaches, grid incursions); information warfare via platforms like TikTok; and brewing kinetic war over Taiwan.

And this doesn’t include current threats to both our food and energy supplies, threats posed not just by foreign adversaries, but by our own government as its merger with and loyalties to global institutions become more evident.

The point: vigilance. In 2016, Stella Morabito wrote a great column entitled Truth or Propaganda? It includes 10 questions to help distinguish propaganda from truth. Is your natural curiosity being suppressed? Are slurs or labels threatened upon speaking out?  Do your opinions “trigger” others?  And are you being expected to trade in reality to prop up another’s illusion? Morabito offers important perspective for exercising human agency in evaluating the slew of “warnings” that seem endlessly coming our way.

Lessons learned

The Lahaina fire should long serve to remind of the deadly nature that unreliable and/or unexecuted emergency preparedness can bring. To that end, this is not about being anti-public warning/alert systems. It is, however, about warning that evaluating the warnings to which you are subjected is critical in today’s world.

As China prepares for a kinetic war with the U.S., might it be time to seriously respond to the influx of Chinese military age men illegally crossing our southern border?

In a recent Newmax interview with Eric Bolling (clip at 16:30), U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, cited numbers of what appear as military age Chinese men illegally crossing our border.

While similar comments have been made by others, specific daily numbers have not routinely been discussed. Per Cruz,

You want to talk about threats to this country. Come to the southern border, which Joe Biden refuses to do. Come to the Rio Grande Valley. See what happens every single day. I was just on the southern border the day before yesterday. We’ve had over 7 million people cross illegally. When I was there several weeks ago in Brownsville, they were seeing 90 to 100 Chinese nationals every day, many of them young men of military age that are coming in.

Now Eric, help me on this. I may not be an expert on geography, but I’m pretty sure China isn’t right to our south and it says something why Chinese military age males are coming through Mexico across our southern border because Joe Biden and the Democrats are letting them in. We’re also seeing record numbers of people on the terror watch list. If you’re a radical Islamic terrorist, if you’re a jihadist, right now Joe Biden has an open invitation: come to our southern border and cross. And we’re going to see a horrific attack, tragically I fear, from these Biden open borders and they don’t care about solving it.

Gatestone Institute senior fellow Gordon Chang has long been sounding a similar alarm.

“There are certain Chinese coming in that are really disturbing,” Chang told Maria  Bartiromo earlier this summer. “Packs of Chinese males of military age, unattached to family groups pretending not to speak English. These are probably saboteurs who are coming in on the first day of war with Asia.”

House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) echoed this concern when talking with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto:

On top of that, 10,000 plus Chinese nationals, a massive 300% increase [this fiscal year]. It’s crazy. And we now have information that some of those are tied to the PLA. Our open border is a national security crisis.

Other outlets provide more detailed news and analysis.

In a Newsmax op-ed, former CIA officer and Vice President for Research and Analysis at the Center for Security Policy Claire M. Lopez wrote of the uptick in illegal Chinese aliens:

Journalists like Sara CarterJennie Taer at The Daily Caller, and Michael Yon on Twitter have been documenting a notable surge in Chinese migrants crossing the U.S. southern border in FY 23 (that began 1 October 2022).

Between October 2022 and April 2023, over 9,000 Chinese migrants, most of them single adult males, were encountered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. Just through April 2023 (7 months into FY 23), that marks a nearly 400% increase in Chinese encounters over the total for the entire FY 22.

This does not even begin to account for the numbers that have made it across our border undetected or among those called “got aways.” Indeed, the numbers of Chinese men observed entering, within, and exiting the Darien Gap number many thousands more than those actually encountered and/or apprehended by CBP.

With another piece, Do China’s ‘Jungle Tigers’ Pose Threat to U.S.?, Lopez reports even more threatening details:

Even more concerning is that villagers and others have seen some of these Chinese men celebrating their safe passage through the Darien Gap by killing chickens and drinking shots of their blood. As explained to us by Chinese virologist Dr. Li-Meng Yan, that is the signature training ritual of the so-called “Jungle Tigers,” a Special Operations Forces unit of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Now, two additional reports should get our attention, adding to the alarm over the illegal alien invasion overall and specifically because of reports about possible PLA Special Forces among them.

In an April interview with Fox News, Muckraker.com founder Anthony Rubin discussed hundreds of military age Chinese men traveling through Panama’s Darien Gap as they move toward the U.S. border. In explaining use of this treacherous route, Rubin said:

This would be for people who can’t fly into the U.S. directly. So what they do is they get on a flight, and they fly into some South American country. Then from there, they would go to Colombia, they would go across the jungle, pop out in Panama, and then they would head up to the United States. But this is going to be for people that can’t fly into the U.S. directly. … You’d rather just fly into the U.S. and overstay your visa. This is for people that don’t have that access for whatever reason.

He noted that “it’s fair to be concerned about the groups showing up at the Darien Gap at the Panama-Colombia border” and additionally mentioned how many people he filmed “do not want their faces on camera.”

Either they are foreign actors that are coming over here for nefarious reasons. … or number two, these are people that are afraid of some sort of retribution by the Communist Chinese Party.

“If it’s number two, well then what does that mean? That means that these people are going to be beholden to the Communist Chinese Party once they’re here. Oh, you’re in the United States. Okay, well, we’re going to threaten your friends and family back home in China unless you do X, Y, and Z.

Additional Muckraker.com illegal immigration coverage including an article entitled Red Cross Map Details Various Routes to the United States is available here.

And it’s not just our southern border. On his AND Magazine substack, retired CIA Operations Officer Sam Faddis asks Why Are Chinese Coming Into Florida By Boat From The Bahamas?

Per Faddis:

The reality is that this uptick in “self-smuggling” by Chinese nationals is not occurring in a vacuum. There are a number of well-known factors that ought to give us pause and make us seriously consider that what we are seeing is not simply economic migration.

First,  the Bahamas have been a haven for smugglers for many years. In fact, there have been in the past a number of cases of Chinese nationals showing up in South Florida hiding on board luxury yachts. Individuals claiming to be operating tour companies have pocketed serious cash by hiding Chinese below decks and then turning them loose at marinas in Florida.  The Bahamas are, of course, also well known for the level of narcotics smuggling that occurs.

The Chinese government also has a massive official presence in the Bahamas. The biggest Chinese embassy in the world is in the Bahamas. The Chinese are actively acquiring property there in proximity to an extremely sensitive U.S. Navy underwater test range. The Chinese have been caught tapping into cellphone networks in the Bahamas to spy on Americans. Some estimates are that there may be as many as 600 Chinese intelligence officers assigned to the CCP’s Bahamas embassy.

He notes this development while also acknowledging the “very troubling increase in the number of military-age Chinese males coming across our southern border” reminding that “no reasonable explanation for that phenomenon has been offered nor has that flow stopped.”

In another piece, Faddis asks when do the suicide bombings start here as “we all share a border with Afghanistan now.”

Terming it “stark reality,” Faddis writes:

The Biden administration’s decisions to abandon Afghanistan to the Taliban and relinquish control over our southern border means that Islamic terrorists now have a safe haven from which to operate and easy access to targets inside the United States. The massive increase in the number of individuals on the terror watchlist being apprehended tells us that our enemies are taking full advantage of both of these things. They are already sending attack teams our way.

Remember Cruz’s words: “we’re going to see a horrific attack, tragically I fear, from these Biden open borders and they don’t care about solving it.” Sadly, Cruz’s fear is well-founded. As also should be yours. And always remember who cares nothing about solving it.

The post The Administrative State vs. We the People appeared first on WB Daily.

]]>
The last years have brought a dizzying pace of socioeconomic and political changes and while some seem benign, others portend big, likely negative and even dangerous consequences for we, the American people.

And with that, 2023 is shaping up to be an even more stark example of the managed decline or devolution of life as we know it with the US administrative state boldly establishing itself as a fourth branch of government unafraid to flex authoritarian muscle against average Americans.

What (or who) is the administrative state?

Sometimes called the Deep State, the administrative state constitutes unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats who have taken up professional residency in the departments and agencies comprising the federal government. They occupy a variety of administrative and regulatory positions and have often served across multiple administrations regardless of prevailing political party affiliation. Some may be lifelong civil service employees while others circulate between government, think tanks, policy research/advocacy institutes and even the private sector.

Recent high profile administrative state actors include former Federal Bureau of Investigations Director James Comey, former National Intelligence Director James Clapper, former Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan and of course, former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci. Numerous second and third tier administrative state personnel were showcased as witnesses during President Donald Trump’s two impeachment proceedings.

The term “administrative state” first surfaced with regard to those in direct contact with the White House and other executive branch officials. In 2020, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus and subsequent pandemic outed the public health administrative state and its power. Since then, other government agencies appear to be following suit by inserting themselves openly and more stringently into American lives. The administrative state appears committed to greater prominence as is evident with actions by the Department of Justice, the State Department, the Department of Defense, the Internal Revenue Service, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Education to name a few.

Time for high alert

Look at the last 20 or so days. We’ve had a CCP spy balloon allowed to travel across our country with a route including some of America’s most sensitive military installations. Only after the balloon finished its reconnaissance mission was it shot down by American forces. But make no mistake – the data collected was safely back in the hands of our country’s greatest foe with senseless justifications peddled to a recognizably less safe American population.

And the additional balloons shot down shortly after this first incursion cast even more suspicion on the current administration’s capabilities, judgment and motivations. Whether the response was sleazy or sloppy, neither choice bodes well for we, the people.

Simultaneously a massive train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, resulted in an environmental calamity made worse by a controlled release and then controlled burn of chemicals yielding toxic gas that was used as a weapon during World War I. Two weeks later, Norfolk Southern, operator of the train, has been extremely slow to respond.

Federal and state officials are posturing to deflect blame and accountability while the residents of this eastern Ohio village are left with a basically uninhabitable town, chemical-related illness, dying pets, livestock and wildlife along with government assurances that “all is safe.” This position is helping to thwart the prospect of significant federal assistance as all involved also know the most devastating impact (i.e., life threatening disease) will likely take years, even decades, to surface.

Perhaps an upcoming visit to the area by President Donald J. Trump will create enough spectacle that, if nothing else, will guilt trip the Biden administration into substantive action. How shameful though if that’s what it takes.

And remember when the Department of Justice colluded with the National School Boards Association to target outspoken parents who attended school board meetings in order to attempt accountability with regard to the questionable actions and policies of school officials? Similar targeting has now been revealed against traditional Catholics.

From The New York Post:

An eight-page dossier leaked by former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin earlier this month indicated that the FBI’s Richmond, Va., office, at the behest of the Department of Justice, was going after “radical traditionalist” Catholics and their possible ties to “the far-right white nationalist movement.”

“The FBI’s Richmond Division would like to protect Virginians from the threat of ‘white supremacy,’ which it believes has found a home within Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass,” Seraphin wrote on Uncoverdc.com, where he leaked the memo.

The dossier, which was put together with help from the Southern Poverty Law Center‘s list of alleged “hate groups” with Catholic ties, has since been deleted after a media backlash. The memo did not make clear if it was just so-called “rad-trad” Catholics that the FBI was targeting — or traditional Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass as well.

Church-going Catholics are now in the crosshairs! As the article notes, public outcries to media coverage appear to have prompted a retreat from this effort, but it still serves as one more example of government seeking to alter or otherwise assert control over the lives of those it theoretically serves.

But as with the school board parents, will standing down from this initiative just tee up another “subversive” group? Maybe Meals on Wheels volunteers or Good Sam Club members could be next.

No level of government seems interested in doing the right thing for the right reason and with this, the American public faces vulnerability not before seen in our entire history.

By accident or design, vulnerability abounds

The three incidents detailed above each exemplify a threat category facing Americans.

The CCP balloon illustrates growing national security threats and our ever-weakening status on the global stage while highlighting America’s domestic vulnerability. And make no mistake. Threats to our national security – especially in today’s world – are threats to your personal security. The next conflict isn’t going to leave the US homeland untouched as in prior wars.

The East Palestine train derailment is emblematic of our crumbling infrastructure. For all the tax dollars thrown at programs alleged to address our railways, airports, highways, bridges and other critical networks, the only substantive change seems to be increased risk of failure. And with this failure comes – most acutely – increased physical and economic vulnerability.

Then we have government’s targeting of outspoken parents as well as traditional Catholics. (And not to mention social media censorship!) Is the exercise of free speech, petitioning of one’s government and practicing the religion of one’s choice as guaranteed in the Constitution now a personal freedom vulnerability for liberty-oriented Americans?

Tucker Carlson addressed American vulnerabilities in a recent monologue. His buried lede: American food and water supplies along with infrastructure and energy systems are under attack. Government is silent on these strikes while corporate media barely, if at all, covers the growing number of incidents and certainly does nothing to connect the emerging dots. But all the while, these vulnerabilities and their consequences abound.

Time to pick a side

Americans are more vulnerable today than perhaps they have ever been. The two-front use of unrestricted warfare against the American people will be the topic of an upcoming column as both the CCP and the US government (elected officials partnered with the administrative state) use this tactic to target the American way of life.

And we haven’t even touched on the dangerous prospect of World War III thanks to US defense of Ukraine’s eastern border while our own southern border is open for anyone including terrorists and criminals to violate our national sovereignty and participate in a government-sanctioned invasion destined to forever change our country.

Our government has shown no desire to protect its citizenry and even worse, it appears to be demonstrably engineering new vulnerabilities within many aspects of our society (economic, national defense, societal, educational, etc.). At a point you run out of institutions with whom to lose faith in.

Meanwhile, all is not lost, but it is time to pick a side. The American people can be a strong and resilient people. And to that point, folks from a variety of geographic, socioeconomic and political backgrounds are thankfully waking up and coming together to face the harsh realities at hand. Still, however, too many are complacent and risk mindlessly sleepwalking us all into a grim future that can’t be reversed.

Again, it’s time to pick a side. Let’s help (and pray for) the less attentive among us to awaken and choose wisely.

A Random Samplings column is about stuff! Whatever tickles my fancy at the moment. So here we go…

I have a dream – about Democrats

Beto O’Rourke in April 2019. (Photo by Gage Skidmore via Wikipedia)

I don’t dream about them at night, but I do wonder why Dems think the way they do. The daydream is, perhaps, a long shot, but here it is.

I hope for day when America has truly hit bottom based on Democratic policies, and the entire Party will wake up. In this dream, they finally realize that massive spending and open borders are disastrous.

They begin to see that if we fight a war with China, we’ll need strong, masculine men to fight it. They admit that people are individuals and not part of racial-identity groups.

They even have an epiphany about abortion, understanding that human life is sacred. And they stop carving up little children to rearrange their parts. You may think I’m a dreamer! But I’m not the only one.

Democrats talk about Our Democracy, but what about Our Humanity?

Sign at Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Austin on 8/10/22 (Photo by Lynn Woolley for WBDaily)

Fear is a tried and true method for vote-getting, and the Left is pretty good at it.

Look what happened on January 6, they told us. Those nasty Republicans are suppressing your vote. They’re trying to take a way a woman’s right to choose.

But think about that last one.

The whole pro-choice movement is based on euphemisms  because they cannot come out and say what it really means. If a baby in the womb is a human being, then killing it is inhumane. Even inhuman.

Conservatives who believe that life is sacred ought to stand up for it – and strongly. If Democrats carp on “Our Democracy,” then Republicans should rightly accuse them of taking away Our Humanity.

When in the course of Human Events…

That line from the Declaration of Independence gives me hope for America’s future. Because what it’s saying is that sometimes, a free people must dissolve some political bonds and create new ones.

I don’t claim to know all the facts about January 6 as CNN does, but I know that elections are stolen and governments become tyrannical.

The Founders explained that, right at the beginning of the Declaration. In fact, it was a good insurrection that got the United States started in the first place.

I’m not condoning January 6.  But when the government gets too big, too powerful, too controlling – the People may decide to stand up for freedom.

One of the quotes from this new film literally jumped out at me when I saw the trailer:

“In front of the United States is a tiger who wants to eat you.”

That’s scary. But it brings up a number of important questions.

  • First, is it true?
  • Second, is the Chinese Communist Party even trying to hide such a thing?
  • Third, is the United States prepared to fight a war for control of Planet Earth if that’s where we’re headed?

The Mainstream Media in the United States is certainly aware of the China threat, but does little reporting on it. It doesn’t pop up as much on social media as does, say, funny cat videos. And, of course, when a major threat to (as the Democrats like to say over and over) Our Democracy is real, it’s hard to be concerned if you never hear much about it.

Joshua Philipp during a panel discussion for the first screening of the latest Epoch Times investigative documentary “The Final War—A 100-Year Plot to Defeat America” at the Heritage Foundation in Washington on Oct. 13, 2022. (Chen Lei/NTD)

The Epoch Times has fought a relentless battle to get this story out.

If you’ve never heard of The Epoch Times, and have never read it, you may not realize how seriously in trouble the world could soon be.

As a political junkie, writer, and talk show host, I’ve always been aware of the threat from the country that gave us COVID-19.

But when I began doing freelance writing for them in the midst of the China Virus, I learned more than I ever knew before. Enough to scare the pants off any rational person.

What’s more, The Epoch Times should know since their founder and so many of their people escaped from China. In fact, the CCP is likely to blame for many attacks against the newspaper’s printing presses in Hong Kong.

THE FINAL WAR – radio commercial

So when The Epoch Times announced its new documentary film, THE FINAL WAR, I took note.

You might classify it as a horror film. But it’s not in the mold of the typical Hollywood epic, because those are fiction. This is real. This is the story of China’s 100-year plan for world domination. To do that, they must defeat the United States of America.

THE FINAL WAR examines that stragey and ought to be a major reference point for any U.S. politician that wants to fully understand the threat we face.
