Random Samplings 19: Trump in 24 & Stupid Skyscraper Names
Random Samplings of a Logical Mind…
Where we tie half our logic behind our brain just to make it fair.
ISSUE ONE: If not Trump then whom?
Never shy, former President Trump says that if he decides to seek the 2024 nomination, he can’t imagine someone else winning. Let’s talk about it.
The obvious next-in-line is former Vice President Pence. He’s a role model, a laid-back guy and likable. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis kept his state open when others were in lockdowns and that elevated him to the top of the “other than Trump” list.”
Texas’ Greg Abbott might have been thinking about it, but Snowmageddon came out of nowhere and likely froze any plans to run.
Kristi Noam, the governor of South Dakota is on the short list – above Texas Senator Ted Cruz and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. But if it’s not Trump – and that’s a Big If – I would consider Tucker Carlson. Non-politician politicians strike me as far better qualified.
ISSUE TWO: Trump and winning!
Donald Trump doesn’t like to go out as a loser. Winning is his thing. He never gets tired of it. But why would anyone want to go through another four years of Trumpish tweets and nightly CNN panels blasting him?
Maybe it’s because he made a lot of promises, and then delivered on most of them. Maybe Mexico didn’t directly pay for the wall, but he forced them to help him fight illegal immigration. Trump had the guts to take on China, renegotiate the North American trade pact, and pull us out of frankly stupid international agreements.
He eliminated the top two terrorists on the planet and brought Iran to its knees. He took on China’s trade practices and even made several peace deals in the Middle East.
He did all this while implementing an “America First” policy. I’d vote for him again. I’m not tired of winning.
ISSUE THREE: What’s in a name?
Naming skyscrapers must be one the hardest jobs in the world. That’s probably why so many just use their street address – you know, like 311 South Wacker in Chicago. It’s doubtful you can picture it because it has no real name, unlike the building across the street, which is the Sears Tower, which is really the Willis Tower.
You probably can picture that one, which is why I like having real names for the tall buildings in Austin.
Like the Austonian. But the city is not Aus-stone. And the Grand Floridian at Disneyworld is not called the Florodian. Shouldn’t it be the Austinian?
And what about Colorado Tower? Shouldn’t it be Texas Tower, even though it’s on Colorado Street? Next door at 405 Colorado a new tower is called “405 Colorado.” But it looks like a tooth and some think “The Molar” would be more memorable.
