Republicans need a Backup Plan in case Trump can’t run
It is quite possible that Donald Trump gets the Republican nomination, and beats Joe Biden like a drum in the general election.
It is also possible that Democrats, in their zeal to prevent him from returning to the White House, may succeed in jailing him, or worse removing his name from the ballot.
In a worst-case scenario for Trump, who do we turn to?
If you subscribe to the “junkyard dog theory,” as I do, we need a president that will instill fear into our enemies, especially Iran, China, and Russia. Remember, under Trump, Russia never invaded Ukraine, and Iran was almost literally on its knees from Trump’s sanctions. Biden’s appeasement policies have the world in chaos and embroiled in two wars.
So, if not Trump – then who?

There are just two other viable candidates at this point.
Unless someone else pops up to take the nomination – and I can’t image who that would be – we’re left with a slate of candidates who can’t muster 40 percent of likely voters in most polls. That will change if, for some reason, Trump exits the race. Then, it’s a whole new ballgame. So which candidate should we turn to?
Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis, as the natural challenger to Trump, has taken a lot of incoming fire.
His numbers have trended down, but still are high enough to make him second to Trump in polling. He’s often criticized for his personality and stage presence, and for his donors. (But note that ALL candidates have donors – even Trump.)
If we’re whittling the list of Trump challengers down to two, DeSantis is on the list. He’s by far the most successful governor in America, and results ought to count for something.
Video: DeSantis as the anti-woke warrior.
DeSantis has taken on Disney and has irked some (including Democrats) for meddling in private business. But Disney is ultra-woke and has feelers into every aspect of American society. The company owns 21st Century Fox, Pixar (Toy Story), Marvel Comics, the ABC Television Network, ESPN, Lucas Films (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) and much more. You can’t get through your day without touching some Disney product. So good for DeSantis for exposing them as the left-wing weasels they are.
Nikki Haley.
Yep, she’s on the list. Her number are trending upward. After Hamas attacked Israel, she called for removing them. She’s firmly in the establishment, but she’s no rookie. She’s been governor of South Carolina and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Video: Haley says we must eliminate Hamas for good
Is she a war hawk? In the case of Hamas and Iran, possibly so, but remember this: there are three nations in the world that cause most of the trouble. One of those is Iran.
Trump had them defanged, and Haley might use Trumpian tactics to put the mullahs back in a cage. If Iran and its terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah are removed as threats, the United States will be much more secure – assuming Biden’s border polices can be repaired.
And how does Haley get along with Trump?
Per Wikipedia, in February 2021 Haley stated:
Most of Mr. Trump’s major policies were outstanding and made America stronger, safer and more prosperous. Many of his actions since the election were wrong and will be judged harshly by history…I will gladly defend the bulk of the Trump record and his determination to shake up the corrupt status quo in Washington.
— The Wall Street Journal op-ed
She’s not a fan of Trump’s personally, but if she recognizes that his policies worked, then she stays on the stage.
The rest of the field.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is in a tough spot. He’s embroiled in the J6 controversy, and is now reduced to repeating incessantly that he will always stand up for the Constitution. He brags about the Trump administration’s accomplishments while attacking Trump.
Tim Scott, a South Carolina senator, has a great story. But that’s not going to get him elected. He’s polling at 2 percent, and likely is hoping to be the vice-presidential nominee.
Video: You’ll have to stay with this video, but it gets to the Hannity-Ramaswamy duel.
Vivek Ramaswamy has positioned himself as the young Donald Trump. But he’s over the top to the point that he had a shouting argument on FOX News with Sean Hannity essentially calling him a liar. There’s a political future for Vivek if he can mature and learn from his mistakes, but it’s not going to happen for him now.
Chris Christie is trying to prove that hatred of one man can get you elected president. ‘Nuff said. Likewise, Asa Hutchinson and Doug Burgum seem to be having fun, but that’s as far as either of them will go. Will Hurd had a better chance.
The bottom line.
Joe Biden is an unmitigated disaster. His policies have the economy in chaos, the world at war, and the United State under invasion. He’s a smug, self-centered, money-grubbing influence peddler who has yet to make a correct foreign policy decision. The country and the world cannot take another four years of Biden madness.
And yet, there’s no talk of taking Biden’s name off of any state ballot. That’s even though any possible reading of what Trump is accused of versus what Biden has likely done shows that Biden is a far bigger threat to what Democrats call “our democracy” than any other single person. Trump has his faults, but he loves America, and he governed it wonderfully.
If we can’t get Trump, we’re down to two viable candidates.
It’s going to be either Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley, and it might be a good idea for the other candidates not to tear them down. Trumpers should support their candidate with all due fervor, but remember that if the Democrats succeed in removing Trump, we need a backup plan.
