As soon as Biden was elected, he erased the southern border.

Unvetted migrants came pouring across.  There were more than ten million migrant encounters, some of them repeat offenders, during Biden’s four wretched years in office.  That, and inflation, put Donald J. Trump back into office.

Trump, neither Left nor Right, considered illegal immigration to be a problem that needed fixing. 

He proceeded to do so, without much regard for any niceties.  The Left, always on the side of illegal activity, became offended by the tactics.  There might be what? – 6 million or so migrants that Biden let in and Trump told ICE to get them out.

The law is on Trump’s side.  The optics of the tactics are not. 

However, if Biden had not made open borders a Day One priority – probably to create a new Democratic voting base – there would be no protests.

It’s instructive to consider what the protests are all about.

First, you’ll need a willing suspension of disbelief that these are organic protesters, offended by Trump’s cruelty to our “neighbors” and that migrants are, to a person, pure as the snow and here to work at jobs Americans won’t do.  If you believe that the protesters are a paid mob, likely hired by George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, or egged on by the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (which is likely), then the calculation changes.

But for the moment, think of them as fine American citizens of the Left, here to expose the cruelty of Immigration Customs Enforcement agents who are hired and get big signing bonuses based on how mean they can be.  What then do we make of the law, and how does the law relate to what’s happening in Minnesota?

The law says it’s illegal to sneak into America without going through the motions of applying for citizenship.  No one denies that the United States, as an actual country, has immigration laws.  The disagreement is about whether to enforce them.  Conservatives are virtually always on the side of law enforcement on this issue, fearing higher crime rates, more gangs and drug cartels, and degradation of the Melting Pot culture.  As an “anything goes” ideology, progressives cling to their idealized view of diversity as a strength, and the surge of new Democratic Party voters that will come following their much-desired path to citizenship.

So yes, it’s about one’s vision for America. 

Should it be a Judeo-Christian, English-speaking, capitalistic nation based on rule of law – or should it be a big government, welfare state serving communities of people who come here as they please and live in enclaves with people who sneaked in from the same country, and who all vote for Democrats.

It’s a battle between the incentives of Capitalism versus the warmth of collectivism.  Trump wants the former.  Soros and the CCP want the latter.  Mayor Zohran Mamdani wants the latter.  The leadership of the state of Minnesota wants the latter.  Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida, and other mostly red states prefer the former.

The protests, and branding efforts to label illegals as “neighbors” are all about changing the United States from a rule-of-law country into a permanent welfare state.  That, and future voters, are what they want.

What do we typically do when someone breaks the law?

It depends on what law.  Democrats constantly tell us that entering the country illegally is not a felony; it’s just a minor crime.  So is shoplifting.  Many Soros DAs have set limits of prosecuting shoplifting.  If you’re just stealing some groceries so that your family can eat, they say, and it’s under $500, there will be no prosecution.  It’s not big deal, and sneaking across the border, at least the first time, is no big deal.  ICE is just mean.

But hold on.  Suppose a non-Soros DA presses charges against a shoplifter.  That person, assuming it’s a small amount stolen, might have to give it back or pay a fine, and (here’s the key) stop shoplifting.  It doesn’t work that way in the immigration battle, and this is where the law doesn’t matter to the Left.   If a first-time illegal alien paid a small price for breaking the law and was told to stop breaking law, he/she would have to go back home to his/her native country.  The Left doesn’t want that.  The Left wants the potential voters and therefore needs a permanent underclass to provide those votes.

This battle played out on NewsNation.

NewsNation is an emerging cable news channel that requires its prime-time anchors to look at both sides of issues.  Chris Cuomo, late of CNN, is on the Left, but he brings on right-wing guests all the time, and is usually nice to them.  That’s the idea of NewsNation.  Katie Pavlich is a conservative who recently moved from Townhall to NewsNation to anchor her own show.  Cuomo had her on as part of the promotion effort.

It started friendly, but when Cuomo contended that simply being here illegally is not such a big crime, Pavlich went off on him.  Her contention was that illegal means illegal, and that we don’t know which illegal is going to murder someone – like Laken Riley who is the poster girl for exposing the violent crimes of illegal aliens.  Cuomo tried, but she cleaned his clock.  The United States was never set up to be a nation where we pick and choose what crime to enforce.

Diversity, belonging, and Joe Biden.

The Left inherently believes that America is an evil nation born in slavery.  The ages roll, but they can’t get over it, and some politicians and pundits on the Left see the world only through the lens of DEI and skin color.  Is that what prompted Joe Biden to erase the border?  I’m not sure even Joe Biden knows the answer to that, or who it was that prompted Biden to make such an asinine executive order.  Many people think Barack Obama was behind it, although he was once known as the deporter-in-chief.  Maybe it was someone else.  But he did it.  The results of that action – higher crime, more murders and rapes, more drug cartels and human traffickers, more degradation of the culture – helped put Donald Trump back in power.

It’s not easy following Joe Biden in the Oval Office.  Like Trump or not, Biden and his handlers used the pandemic to screw the country in ways I would have thought impossible.  Like Trump or not, the law in on his side when ICE rounds up illegals for deportation.  Like Trump or not, this is what the people voted for.

Like it or not, it was not Donald Trump whose policies led to ICE raids and the current protests.  Joe Biden, as essentially his first act in office, did something very stupid, and he ought to get the blame.

In the upside-down world in which we live, crowds gather, and protest, and raise hell for those who die in the process of breaking the law.  The victims of those who break the law are often forgotten.

It’s true that Laken Riley, a student at the University of Georgia, and Iryna Zarutska, who was riding a train in Charlotte made news when they were murdered.

But much bigger news was made by George Floyd, and now by Renee Nicole Good, both in Minneapolis and both in the process of breaking the law.

Protests followed in both cases, but not for Katie Abraham. 

Who’s she?  Just a young girl who was killed by a drunk illegal alien shielded by the sanctuary policies in Illinois.  You never heard of her or hundreds of other victims of illegal aliens who get no news conferences and no protests.

Two articles, both from Fox Digital crossed my desk, and made me wonder.  Why do innocent victims often go unnoticed?

In the first article entitled, “An illegal immigrant killed my daughter – leftists march for Renee, not for Katie,” Joe Abraham mourns for his daughter who was killed by an illegal alien.  Katie was stopped at a red light when she was rammed by a vehicle going about 80 miles per hour.  The driver was Julio Cucul-Bol, who Abraham says was drunk.  Joe Abraham would like to know why his daughter’s death was ignored by the media:

Yet when my daughter was violently killed, there were no viral videos, no breathless media panels, no emotional press conferences and no candlelight vigils amplified by politicians and pundits.  Where were the stories about how the car Katie was riding in — stopped at a red light — was struck from behind at nearly 80 miles per hour by a drunk-driving illegal alien?  Where was the outrage over how first responders had to pry the vehicle open like a tuna can to pull my daughter’s lifeless body from the wreckage?

It’s hard to imagine the emotions of a man like Joe Abraham, seeing George Floyd deified, and the policeman who tried to arrest him convicted of murder, and an entire summer of protests – all for a street thug.  Katie Abraham got none of that.  She, of course, was innocent, the victim of a lawbreaker, and of the policies of a sanctuary state.

The second article, “Meet the Minnesotans killed by illegal immigrants that Walz, Dems never held news conferences for,” by Andrew Miller, hones in on Minnesota.  Several of them, he writes have been killed in the last few years by immigrants who were in our country illegally – the people that Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey refer to as “neighbors.”

You won’t know the names, but you could look them up. 

Victoria Eileen Harwell, killed in a car wreck by an intoxicated Ecuadorian.  Hallie Helgeson, an 18-year-old killed along with her boyfriend, 19-year-old Brady Heiling, struck head-on by an intoxicated Honduran national while traveling in Wisconsin.  America Mafalda Thayer, murdered and beheaded by her Cuban national boyfriend.  What does Tim Walz have to say about these people?

What does Jacob Frey think about these deaths?  Not much, if anything.  From the article:

“Governor Walz, Lt. Gov Flanagan and the rest of the Minnesota DFL leaders have forgotten what it means to be an American or a Minnesotan,” Adam Schwarze, former Navy SEAL and GOP U.S. Senate Candidate in Minnesota told Fox News Digital. “Where is the outrage for our innocent citizens killed by criminals? Where is their press conference, their candlelight vigil. Enough is enough. We need new leadership.” 

The news conferences, the screaming headlines, the violent protests, the fake murder charges and convictions are reserved for the guilty with George Floyd as the poster boy.  Renee Nicole Good was no George Floyd, but she, like him, was disobeying a direct order from officers.  Her death was a shame, and totally avoidable, but happened while she was breaking the law. She will now be made into a martyr for the left-wing cause of open borders and sparking nationwide unrest.

Chuck Devore, of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, and a frequent guest on the Cardle & Woolley show on Talk 1370 in Austin, in an article entitled “Left seeks martyrs to fuel anti-Trump uprising as ICE enforcement operations ramp up nationwide,” says it’s a calculated stragey:

Elected officials on the left are whipping up hysteria not just to fundraise and fend off primary challenges from their even more extreme flanks, but to provoke confrontations that could produce martyrs. Martyrs, as history shows, are powerful accelerants for political violence, as the death of George Floyd in 2020 in Minneapolis showed. They rally the base and demonize opponents — with the two main strategic objectives being to pressure administrations to retreat while costing Republicans in the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential contest. 

DeVore’s point is well taken.  The left got a summer’s worth of mileage out of the George Floyd “murder,” and now they will not let the death of Rene Good go to waste.

Walz and Frey provide more clues as to what’s a play here.

After Good was killed, Walz and Frey both appeared in videos.  Walz urged more protests, with the obligatory disclaimer to keep them peaceful (he doesn’t mean it).   He suggested that protesters video ICE agents for footage to be used against them later in court.

Frey was even more to the point.  He stated that his city is being occupied by federal agents representing a different set of values from those in Minnesota.  Minnesotans, according to Frey, want open borders and illegal drunken drivers and drug dealers, and Somali scammers because those are our neighbors.

Video:  At about 4:25, Mayor Frey says Minneapolis has been invaded by officers that do not share Minnesota’s values.

I think Frey has a point, and maybe the Democrats can use the current political climate in Minnesota and other blue states to put a Democrat back into office in 2028. If that happens, the new president can open the border, just like Joe Biden did, and bring in unlimited numbers of foreign workers along with drug cartels, and potential murderers.  Just remember, that’s one of the main reasons that Donald Trump was elected in the first place.

But here’s the rub:  If Democrats open the border yet again, and flood the country with illegal aliens yet again, Donald Trump will not be around to fix it.  That means we’ll likely have a new group of innocent Americans dead at the hands of people who ought not to have been here, and for whom no news conferences or protests will be held.
