Rise of the Churchoids
Hatred that is spewed from the pulpit must be some of the worst hatred of all.
Churches that do that, and mix left-wing politics and LGBTQ propaganda into their services are what I call “churchoids.” They claim to follow the teachings of Jesus, and they may have Bible readings, but they’re more about modern societal trends.
Instead of “Make America Great Again,” these churches are tied into the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion movement that proclaims: anything goes.
Sometimes, race figures in as well.
In a sermon at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia, Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley attacked the late Charlie Kirk calling him an “unapologetic racist.” Kirk was precisely the opposite of that. It makes me wonder how someone so hateful as Wesley can claim the mantle of pastor.

Churchoids seem to go past the teachings of Jesus and move into the realm of politics.
Living in Austin, I see churchoids all around me. Central Presbyterian in downtown Austin put up a sign that read: Protect Trans Kids. Protect them from who? The people at the church? This is left-wing, LGBTQ ideology at its worst. Science says a male cannot become a female or vice versa. So, what is this church trying to say? I think it’s liberal virtue signaling. Beyond that, if a church, or a school, or whack-job parents try to “transition” a child, they ought to be prosecuted.
If you drive up “The Drag,” which is the commercial street adjoining the University of Texas, you’ll see churches festooned with LGBTQ rainbow symbolism.
I doubt if Jesus would toss a gay person out of church, but based on Bible teachings, I suspect He would minister to that person in the spirit of those teachings. I would expect the same for a young girl considering an abortion.
This is not to say that normal Christian churches don’t have members, or even pastors, who have been divorced, had abortions, or committed some crime against society.
Normal churches are about forgiveness and changing lives. Churchoids seem to be more about normalizing any type of behavior whether the Bible condones it or not.
Racism should be out of place in a normal church. But not in a churchoid.
I’ve sat through a few sermons that made me cringe, but I’ve never heard anything from a pulpit that was as disgusting as what came out of the mouth of the Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
“Reverend” and “Doctor” are his made-made titles, but I will not honor him by using them. I’ll just call him Wesley.
Video: Here’s Wesley’s entire sermon from September 14, 2025 so you can view it in context. At 16:41, he gets political against “white supremacy,” President Trump, and ICE. AT 19:10 he starts his attacks on Charlie Kirk.
This odious preacher actually stood in the pulpit four days after a suspected murderer, possibly acting to support his transitioning lover, blew out the left side of Charlie Kirk’s neck, causing blood to gush out as if from a fire hydrant. I saw the video. I wished I hadn’t. Anyone human would shudder at the sight of that, and wonder at the kind of monster who could do that to another human being. But not Wesley.
Instead of thinking of Charlie Kirk’s two children, his wife, his parents – Wesley hurled vile, race-based, and untrue attacks at man whose body was yet warm.

Wesley is no man of God.
The things he told his compliant and agreeable congregation are the words of a race-crazed madman who is more interested in the color of his own skin, and what types of societal programs that should entail, than he was concerned about Charlie Kirk’s life, his freedom to speak, and the sorrow that now engulfs Mr. Kirk’s wife and children.
Charlie Kirk was, in life, quite the opposite of Wesley.
Wesley wants to retain government-given advantages.
Mr. Kirk wanted people – of all races and ethnicities – to enjoy the freedoms America offers, including the freedom to speak openly without fear and to engage in non-violent debate.
Of course, Wesley utilized an obligatory disclaimer denouncing the murder. But after that, he turned savage. Per FOX News, here are some of the things he said about Mr. Kirk.
Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be assassinated, but I am overwhelmed seeing the flags of the United States of America at half-staff, calling this nation to honor and venerate a man who was an unapologetic racist and spent all of his life sowing seeds of division and hate into this land.
Based on his own words, Wesley is the racist.
Race is all he could think about in his screed against a good man. As did many liberals on CNN and MSNBC, he brought up the case of the murdered Minnesota legislators:
And hearing people with selective rage who are mad about Charlie Kirk but didn’t give a damn about Melissa Hortman and her husband when they were shot down in their home, tell me I ought to have compassion for the death of a man who had no respect for my own life.
This is BS of the highest order. First, the Hortman murder was a local story about a local politician. Second, so far as I know, Rep. Hortman was not the recipient of constant hate from the other side of the aisle as Mr. Kirk was. Third, no conservative that I know of took delight in Mrs. Hortman’s murder. Fourth, I and many other conservative commentators have denounced the kook that murdered her and called for his execution.
Wesley’s sermon got worse as it went on. He said this about Charlie Kirk:
I am sorry, but there’s nowhere in the Bible where we are taught to honor evil. And how you die does not redeem how you lived. You do not become a hero in your death when you are a weapon of the enemy in your life.
There were no angels in the Alfred Street Baptist Church when Wesley made this disgusting statement. Wesley might have preached an uplifting sermon that day about the grace of God, the value of human life, and Charlie’s Kirk’s devotion to that right.
Instead, he spoke for the Devil. In contrast to the vile language of this so-called pastor, Charlie Kirk stood for American values of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. He believed in marriage. And babies. In a world as envisioned by Charlie Kirk, black children in south Chicago would have moms and dads and would attend good schools, and grow up to be whatever they were called to be.

In Wesley’s race-based world, those same kids often die from stray bullets fired by street gangs in the process of killing each other. Charlie Kirk was a good man. He was a true conservative who believed in what’s right and got murdered because of it. He knew it might happen. He talked about it. He kept right on going to college campuses and trying to steer young people away from the misery and gloom that defines the Democratic Party.
If you disagreed with Charlie Kirk, he would move you to the front of the line and challenge you:
Prove Me Wrong.
No one that took that challenge ever beat him. Charlie was logical, well-informed, and one of our time’s great debaters. Truth was on his side. He loved everybody, though he knew that it might cost him his life. He was only 31 when a crazed loon blew him away.
Our country and the world are diminished without Charlie Kirk. We still have Wesley, and what Charlie would want us to do is what I will do. Let’s all pray for Wesley and his church(oid). The Reverend seriously needs a literal come-to-Jesus moment. I hope he can see that as clearly as those of us who were appalled by the pure hate coming from his mouth. I wish Charlie were here to debate him.
Churchoids have a place in our modern society, but they shouldn’t claim the mantle of God.
I’m not an overly-religious person but I believe in God and the basic teachings of Jesus. I would never take a life. If I found your wallet on the street, packed with cash, I would return it to you intact. If I do business with you, I will not cheat you. If I owe you, I will pay my debt. As a male, I delight in female company, but I will never desire to change my sex. I do not want to lie down with another male. Because of my amazing parents, and the excellent schools I attended, I know the difference in right and wrong.
I know that all people have hope and desires. I wish all of them well so long as their goals are admirable. I respect different cultures, but most of all I want America to be a melting pot with its own unique culture to which we can all belong. I wish we could all just be people again.

The churchoids seem to have agendas different from what Jesus taught. Good for them. But they are not churches and they ought to move on and become support groups for whatever lifestyles they believe in. No one – certainly not me – is suggesting they be shut down. Churches – normal churches – with all their differences – should be about the spiritual part of our lives, appealing to our better angels. What churches ought to stand for is not all that different from what Charlie Kirk stood for, and for what his legacy will certainly be.
In the meantime, I will pray for the pastor Wesley and his adherents at the Alfred Street Baptist Church. I sincerely hope that this church can find a way to expunge the hatred from its pulpit. I hope Wesley can do that.
I hope he can drop the race-baiting and get back to the teachings of Jesus. If he can’t, I hope the elders of the church will look for new leadership. I wish the Alfred Street Baptist Church would become a more loving, more Christ-like, uplifting place than it is.
I wish that for all the churchoids.
