Why Can’t We See What’s In the Jeffrey Epstein Files?

I don’t know, but I can guess.  I assume it’s something that would compromise some federal agency or assets of that agency – probably the CIA.

So, there’s two issues here.

One is transparency promised by President Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel and his deputy Dan Bongino, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.  The other issue is why we can’t see the files.

Obviously, something is very different from when people like Bongino, on his eponymously named talk show, clamor for something – and when they get put into a position to do it.  My guess is that it’s different on the inside.  What if Epstein was involved with the CIA and some people the agency wanted compromised got that way.  Releasing the files under such circumstances would be problematic.

High government jobs, running for office and talk radio.

Being President of the United States, Director of the FBI (or even Deputy Director), or the Attorney General of the United States is a pretty decent gig with a lot of power.  When you’re running for one of these jobs, or jockeying for an appointment, you tend to speak loud and bold.  You make promises.  If you’re MAGA, you listen to the base, and the base REALLY wants to see those files and especially the client list, which we are now told does not exist, you might over-promise.

Meanwhile, over on the radio dial, on dozens of stations around the country, Dan Bongino could do monologues on what he supposed was in those files, and demand, with impunity, that they be released, like the lady mouse in “An American Tail” – “wewease the secwet weapon!”

Of course, that’s what I do too – sometimes.  On the Cardle & Woolley Show on Talk 1370 in Austin, my broadcast partner and I often make demands of government.  We can agree or disagree about it, and at the end of the show, we walk out of the studio together discussing how much better we think our show is than the guys across town.  But when all is said and done, we don’t get a vote on the Austin City Council, or in the Texas Legislature, or in the Congress.  We don’t run anything but a three-hour daily radio show.

Bloviation, of course, is a fine art.

Those who can get a syndicated gig do it nationwide, and though no “replacement” for Rush Limbaugh has yet emerged, all of us from the local side to the syndicated side tend to make actual governing sound simpler than it probably really is.  I think that’s what happened with Dan Bongino.

Remember, all politicians and radio hosts have brands.  Mine revolves around logic and common sense.  Jim Cardle is the Texas Insider.  Dan Bongino’s brand is that he’s been on the inside before, he knows what’s going on, and he’s a straight shooter.  He wants to protect that brand.

As a matter of fact, I’ve wanted to see those files for a long time.  I’ve been a “let the chip fall where they may” kind of guy – even if Donald Trump himself was a client of Epstein’s.  The four people at the top most associated with the “cover-up” if that’s what it is, also have clamored for the release.   Bongino talked about it on his radio show.  Pam Bondi even told FOX News she had the client list on her desk, and it would soon be released.  Oops.  Something happened.  What could it be?

Here’s my best guess, based on what’s been dribbling out.

It appears that Epstein was involved in some manner with the CIA.  Assuming that’s true, I’ll let my imagination run wild.  Maybe he got a lot of big shots on the Lolita Express and took them to Epstein Island to compromise them.   I don’t know why.  Spy agencies always operate under a cloak of secrecy, and they do it for a reason.  But if the client list came out, it might do damage to a lot of information sources.  If that’s too cloak-and-dagger for you, consider this.

Suppose someone had lunch with Epstein and that person’s name popped up on the list.  That person may have done nothing wrong, but the mere mention of a name in connection with Epstein could mean ruin.  Of course, young girls who were caught up in this might not wish to be revealed to the public.  Naughty things appear to have been done, but why?  Was it just pedophilia?  Or was it something more?  Or was Elon Musk right when he asserted that Donald Trump himself was on the list.  Almost everybody seems to think Bill Clinton was.

According to AG Bondi, no client list exists.  But wait; there’s more.  The lawyer Alan Dershowitz claims he was smeared when accused of being on the list.  He says he was cleared, but he knows who’s on the list.  He just can’t say because of legal considerations.

So, here’s what we kind of know:

  • President Trump promised transparency and now says we should move on.
  • Pam Bondi said she had the client list, but no such list exists.
  • We know for sure that there is a client list or there isn’t a client list.
  • The past history of Jeffrey Epstein is complicated, and most interesting.
  • We know that he committed suicide, or that he was murdered.
  • We know there was a gap in the video of his cell the night of his death.
  • We know there was no crime, but yet his ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, is doing time.

If some of these bullet points seem contradictory, welcome to the wild world of government, sex, and espionage.  I want to know what’s in those files, and if there’s a list, I want to know who’s on it.  Most of all, I was told that all of it would be made public, and I don’t like to be lied to.  On the other hand, maybe the reason for not releasing it is very compelling.  Maybe there’s a really good reason not to release the files.  After all, more than 6 decades after the assassination of President Kennedy, we are left to wonder if Lee Harvey Oswald was the patsy he claimed to be.

We can’t ask Oswald what really happened, because he’s dead.  And so is Jeffrey Epstein.
