In 1965, Dick Enberg begins his broadcast career in Los Angeles as radio and TV voice of the California Angels, UCLA basketball and the Los Angeles Rams. In July 2015, MLB’s Hall of Fame honors Enberg with the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcast excellence. After 60 years of sports broadcasting, MLB Padres TV announcer Dick Enberg tells during Wednesday night’s game against the Giants that he retires after the 2016 season as Fox Sports play-by-play host.

SAD NEWS FOR ONE OF THE BROWNS During the 1950s and 1960s, Jim Ed, plus sisters Maxine and Bonnie comprise singing group The Browns who have the massive hit record The Three Bells which grabs #1 in Billboard Country for 10 consecutive weeks and is a crossover Pop hit. In 2005, Maxine Brown publishes her autobiography, Looking Back to See. In June 2015, Jim Ed Brown passes away at 81 of lung cancer. On Monday, September 28, 2015, 78 year old Country singer Bonnie Brown announces that she has lung cancer.

RETURN OF WILLIAMS BOOSTS MSNBC’S LAGGING RATINGS

In February 2015, NBC News suspends its NBC Nightly News prime time news anchor Brian Williams for making false statements on and off the air about his 2003 reporting on the U.S. invasion of Iraq. MSNBC’s audience is the smallest among the three cable news networks. NBC News brings back Brian Williams as breaking news anchor on MSNBC. According to Nielsen, Williams’ coverage of the pope’s arrival has 526,000 viewers which is a 57% gain for MSNBC.

EUBANKS OUT OF ROSE PARADE On January 1, 1948, KTLA TV CW CH 5 Los Angeles, CA airs the Rose Parade. From July 11, 1966-December 20, 1974 Bob Eubanks hosts The Newlywed Game. Johnny Jacobs is its announcer. Since 1979, Eubanks hosts the New Year’s Day Rose Parade on KTLA TV. In 1982, Stephanie Edwards who is first female host of Good Morning America on ABC TV is Rose Parade co-host. After New Year’s Day 2016, Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards retire as Rose Parade broadcast hosts on KTLA TV.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Baseball broadcasting HOF member Vin Scully’s career only just begins 62 years ago when he is the youngest sports broadcaster on a World Series game (baseball). At only 25, he voices the 1953 World Series game broadcast between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees. Behind the mic for an incredible 65 years 5 months and 22 days (as of September 23, 2015) Vin Scully announces the Dodgers games since April 1, 1950. Before Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks kicks off, Alex Angert presents Vin Scully with a Guinness World Records certificate as the Longest Sports Broadcaster for a Single Team.
