The Mainstream Media — intentionally or otherwise – misrepresented the outcome of the October 22nd Benghazi hearing during which Hillary Clinton testified for 11 hours. The Associated Press story said, “the hearing grew contentious but revealed little new…” McClatchy reported, “…an 11 hour hearing that produced no significant new information.” The Dallas Morning News editorial stated, “…Democrats’ complaints that Republicans had little new to ask Clinton were borne out.”

You have to wonder what hearing these writers were watching!

The Wall Street Journal carried two op-eds showing that Clinton lied the night of the attack. And, in fact, NEW evidence at the hearing showed that “Hillary Clinton’s spin about the attack was a politically expedient fiction.” Yes, Hillary lied — but somehow the Mainstream Media missed that part.

In nutshell here’s what is important about the Benghazi hearing:

When I did my radio talk show the day after the hearing, I focused on these key points:

• Hillary had undergone extensive hair and makeup prep for the cameras.
• She had memorized talking points and diversions and employed them well.
• She was well schooled to keep her demeanor calm to “look presidential.”
• She was determined NOT to provide a “what difference at this point does it make” sound bite.
• The Committee actually did expose the initial spin about the attack as a made-up story.
• Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan revealed an email sent by Hillary to Chelsea Clinton at 11:12 PM the night of the attack. It read: “Two of our officers were killed in Benghazi by an al Qaeda-like group.”
• Also, on the night of the attack, Clinton spoke on the phone with Libyan President Mohamed Magariaf around 8 PM. Notes from the conversation described her as saying: “We have asked for the Libyan government to provide additional security to the com pound immediately as there is a gun battle ongoing, which I understand Ansar as Sharia [sic] is claiming responsibility for.”
• The next day, in the afternoon, Clinton visited by phone with Egyptian Prime Minster Hesham Kandil – and she says to him: “We know that the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack – not a protest.”

Little of this information appears in the Mainstream Media accounts published in the newspapers that I read the day after the hearings. If you want more information, you’ll have to read “She Knew All Along” by Kimberly A. Strassel or an editorial entitled “Benghazi and Character” – both in the Wall Street Journal.

On the other hand…

Both the AP story and the McClatchy story mentioned Mrs. Clinton saying:

“I’ve lost more sleep than all of you put together. I have been wracking my brain about what more could have been done or should have been done.”

Both stories mentioned the cost of the Benghazi Committee has reached $4.7 million. The AP story reported:

“There were no gaffes for Clinton.”

You’ll excuse me if I fail to believe that Secretary Clinton lost sleep over what else could have been done.

She lost sleep all right. But most likely it was over whether President Obama would get reelected, thus preserving her chances to win the Democratic nomination and the presidency four years later. Remember, we were in the final days of the 2012 presidential campaign and the Obama-Biden team was working hard to convince people that Obama had saved the economy and had made the world safe from terrorism. In fact, Vice President Biden had a favorite saying that wrapped it all up in once nice, easy-to-remember sound bite:

“Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.”

This was the reelection narrative – that President Obama had saved the economy and that al Queda was on the run. This was President Obama’s story and he was sticking to it. If either one of these two narratives was disputed by the facts on the ground, the Obama reelection might be in doubt – even against a weak Mitt Romney who refused to use Benghazi as an election talking point.

So Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama made up the story about the “video” that supposedly was responsible for a spontaneous attack on the compound at Benghazi. The Secretary of State and President of the United States told the American people over and over that the video was the cause of the attack. It was a lie. That’s what this latest hearing proved.

The question becomes: does Hillary Clinton have the character to become the President of the United States?

The answer is painfully obvious. And yet, the preponderance of media accounts of the hearing simply tell us that Hillary lost sleep, she did not make any gaffes, and the hearing cost a lot of money.

Four people died and Hillary Lied.

The fact emerging from this hearing is that Hillary Clinton knew all along what this attack was about. Ambassador Chris Stevens, Glen Doherty, Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods died. And Hillary Clinton lied about why they died in order to protect her own political career and that of President Obama.

Who, exactly, politicized Benghazi? No — not the Committee headed by Trey Gowdy. Obama, aided and abetted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton politicized it. The Committee produced the facts and the Mainstream media failed to report them.
