The mid 1960s bring us Southern California hippies and psychedelic Rock group Jefferson Airplane. In the mid-1960s, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, vocalist Marty Balin, guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bass player Jack Casady pioneer the San Francisco sound. In 1996, Kantner inducts into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. RED JONES [2008 Georgia Radio Hall of Fame – retired from WKNG-1060 June 15, 2011 after 63 years in radio] (Carrollton-Tallapoosa, GA) Subject: KILT. As Claude Hall said: they come, they do, they go. Sadly, losing more and more. Re/Bob Presley’s passing, I think back on the early days of KILT and at one time John Trotter 6-9, Rob McLeod 9-12, Bob Presley 12-3, Me Red Jones 3-7, Bill Slatter 7-12, Bill Vance 12-6. All have passed on except me and possibly Bill Vance. At 84, there’s a lil ham left in all of us. I voice track Carl’s Country Classics and enjoy life. But too many are leaving us too early. But great memories. Your column keeps us informed. Red Jones, Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame.

DAVE MICHAELS (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: Just read your Ray Scott – in JRRR. JIM ; another nice job. Sunny here today in the upper 30’s maybe! Have errands to run. Maybe a White Castle stop ( sliders – Coffee ) Do you have an actual White Castle in Houston? Or just frozen at Kroger’s? Dave

DUKE GILLELAND (Belton TX) Subject: Curtis Potter. We were saddened here this week when we heard about the passing of Curtis. Being with The Brazos Valley Boys band, he was a big part of my first Country/Western music interest when I was just a young kid. Later my wife Cindy & I would dance to his music many times throughout the years at the many clubs and halls we went to. With Curtis there, we always knew it would be a great dance! He always put a “Texas Scald” on them ol’ songs! RIP. Duke & Cindy Gilleland; Belton Texas

PAUL CHRISTY [ex KHMX FM, KRBE FM, KKRW FM, KZFX FM] (Houston, TX) Subject: I Was A DJ When DJs Jockeyed Discs… And I Don’t Mean CDs. Do you remember the excitement of getting that new DJ gig and driving cross country to get there? That moment when you could finally pick up your new station’s signal (AM, of course)? Listening intently for the jingles & breaks. Then, depending on the time of day and who was on the air it was either “They think HE’S good? This is gonna be easy.” (

PHIL ROBBINS [Former Programming/Operations Mgr of KVIC FM (95.1) 1971 to 1982] (Victoria, TX) No wonder I remember you, but damb Jim where haven’t you worked. Hey I just wanna say I really enjoy JRRR. I’m learning so much that I never knew about jocks, stations, etc.

FR BOB TOMLINSON [ex KXYL-1240, KIOX-1270] (Jacksonville-Lake Striker, TX) Subject: I Was A DJ When DJs Jockeyed Discs… And I Don’t Mean CDs. Yes I was on KXYL 1240 in the early 80’s. A couple of years after I left the stations sold and I think there was a call letter change. I’ve not kept up with that for many many years. Bob
