On Monday, February 22, 2016 a fight breaks out [3] between Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and former Dallas councilman Dwaine Caraway at Gospel Music KHVN-970 (Heaven) in Dallas, TX. The two are in a fierce battle for District 3 commissioner’s court seat that Price holds for decades. Their heated argument begins inside the KHVN-970 (Heaven) studios during a commercial break at a candidate roundtable which erupts into curses and shouts. Heaven help us all.

Video: John Wiley Price, District 3 Commissioner for Dallas County, Texas, was debating former city council member Dwaine Caraway (who is challenging Price for his seat) at a Dallas-area radio station when their long-simmering rivalry turned into a physical altercation, the final moments caught on camera by fellow candidate Micah B. Phillips. Police are now investigating this as a criminal matter.

CHRISTOPHER [Kip] ALLEN (St. Louis, MO) Subject: Ron Gray. Does anyone remember Ron Gray? I think he used to be sales/programming for either KLIF of KRLD in Dallas in the ‘70s. I used to work for him at WKRG Mobile when he was General Manager there. Ron was one of the more colorful people in the industry I knew. TRIVIA ANSWER: On February 18, 1922 WOC-1420 Davenport, Iowa is the first commercial radio station west of the Mississippi River to go on the air.

JAY WALKER [Ex WLS-890, KTSA-550, Jay Walker Prod, 40 Plus Years In Radio] (Dallas-Ft. Worth-Hurst, TX) Jim As you know, radio is all about networking. To make the trip from small, to medium, to major market as a jock took a lot of effort and luck. One of my ‘A List’ contacts with my weekly aircheck mail-out was Ric Lippincott back when he was at KYUU in San Francisco. I’d send out a weekly update and wait for rejection letters. Over the space of a year or so Ric went from the basic form rejection to hand written comments in the margin offering words of encouragement. The purpose of the weekly mailer was to create ‘buzz’ so that my name would be mentioned whenever a PD would ask another ‘heard any good jocks lately’. In my case it worked and got me on at WLS. I’m sad to report Ric passed away of cancer early this week. Best wishes as always… Jay
