Lawyers for Texas Governor Rick Perry have filed a 60-page motion to dismiss the two indictments, saying they are not supportable.

According to the brief: “Continued prosecution of Gov. Perry on the current indictment is unprecedented, insupportable and simply impermissible.” Now, special prosecutor Michael McCrum will have a chance to respond – and he’s already expressed confidence that the charges are valid. Once McCrum answers, the judge will rule. It is increasingly difficult to see how this case ever gets to court. Legal experts and political observers from both sides of the aisle are saying the charges are flimsy at best. At worst, they’re nothing more than political retribution, and that type of thing should be thrown out by an impartial judge. Meanwhile, the indictments have significantly raised the profile and presidential prospects of Rick Perry.
