Suppose for a moment that conservatives created their own brand of political correctness.

Suppose that brandishing a Mexican flag was deemed to be – shall we say – insensitive?

After all, the Texians at the Alamo were slaughtered under the Mexican flag. The Mexican-American War was fought when Mexico refused to recognize Texas as a sovereign state and opposed its annexation by the United States.

More recently, when illegals held parades in cities like Los Angeles and Dallas, they carried the Mexican flag. And now, a graduate of the University of California at San Diego has waved a Mexican flag as she received her diploma. She was proclaiming the fact that she is in this country illegally, and yet managed to work the system to her favor. Is the Mexican flag a symbol of oppression and illegality in Texas? It’s time for Walmart to stop selling this flag.

Controversy at UCSD.

Here’s what happened.

Indira Esparza had been lauded by the liberal media (San Diego Union Tribune) for beating the system – namely American immigration laws. The Union Tribune had featured her in a story about her successes in getting around our laws in spite of the “barriers” she had to face.

Those included financial insecurity, anxiety over losing family members to deportation, and other people being judgmental because of her status as an illegal alien. At WBDaily, we admit what she did is amazing. It isn’t easy to break so many laws and still work a system, even under a left-wing administration, to get what you want out of a country you disrespect.

At her graduation, she walked across the stage, making a peace sign with two fingers. As she received her diploma from a politically correct college, she held up a green, white and red Mexican flag. It wasn’t precisely the same one that Sana Anna flew when he executed the Texians at the Alamo, but it was close.

This is probably the flag that Santa Anna flew at the Alamo.

Blowback? Yes! – No!

Sure a few people objected. But in the Age of Obama, conservatives and their opinions do not matter. If a flag offends liberals – it may eventually come down. But if conservatives are offended by what a flag stands for, it’s no big deal.

Why should anyone in the United States fly the Mexican flag? The Mexican flag stands for oppression of the people of Texas, the slaughters at the Alamo and at Goliad, and (more recently) the in-your-face illegal invasion that may have already seen 25% of the entire Mexican population migrating to the United States.

Why is flying that flag in America – and especially in Texas – OK?

You can no longer buy a Confederate flag at Wal-Mart, but you can buy this Mexican flag shirt.

You can no longer buy a Confederate flag at Walmart, but you can buy this Mexican flag shirt.

What about it? Should there be a conservative movement to make the Mexican flag politically incorrect. Should we conservatives demand that Walmart never fly it or sell it?

It would be futile, even if conservatives were of a mind to adopt liberal tactics. Most of us see the Alamo and the Mexican-American War as part of history. We may not like it when an illegal alien games the system and then shoves the Mexican flag in our collective faces, but we consider the source. These things happen on college campuses. Most of us grumble a bit and then move on.

Besides, political correctness doesn’t work for conservatives. Freedom is more important to us than telling other people what to do.
