“Annie’s Mailbox” is one of those newspaper advice columns – this one a spinoff of “Ask Ann Landers,” written by her former editors – that sometimes give out very strange advice. This week, I rolled my eyes at a letter, followed by an answer that could only come from the politically correct times in which we live.

The letter was signed “Unknown Gender.”

Actually, the gender of writer was revealed early on. His sexual equipment includes some very male attributes. He, in fact, IS a male, WAS a male and WILL ALWAYS be a male. But he’s got “tendencies” that make him want to be a woman – a fantasy that can never be fulfilled.

It reminds me of the Tim Curry role in “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in which Curry’s character – Dr. Frank-N-Furter wore heavy eye shadow and lipstick and pranced around in women’s underwear. The entire movie – which has become a cult favorite – was outrageous in 1975. Today – it seems like a statement of what the LGBT community would like the world to become. Take a look at this video of Curry performing “Sweet Transvestite.”

Unknown Gender reminds me of Frank-N-Furter claiming to be from “Transsexual Transylvania.” In his letter to Annie, Unkown admits he’s a guy – but he’d rather be a girl:

“Dear Annie: I’m a 58-year old male. Ever since my early 20’s, I’ve been confused about which sex I truly am. Of course, I was born a male, but my thoughts and feelings are female. There is nothing about being a male that interests me. I’m thinking about getting hormone shots to become more female…”

Oh, this is not going to be pretty.

Let’s state for the record that God decides gender. Or if you want to put it scientifically, when the sperm combines with the egg, the chromosome pairing determines what sex you will be. If Unknown Gender wants to know for dead certain what gender he is (and we do mean “he”), all he has to do is drop his pants and gaze into mirror.

Unknown Gender may “enjoy being a girl” – but that doesn’t make him one. Wikipedia has this graph about gender selection and how it relates to chromosomes:

“Most mammals, including humans, are genetically determined as such by the XY sex-determination system where males have an XY (as opposed to XX) sex chromosome. It is also possible in a variety of species, including human beings, to be XXY or have other intersex/hermaphroditic qualities. These qualities are widely reported to be as common as redheadedness (about 2% of the population). During reproduction, a male can give either an X sperm or a Y sperm, while a female can only give an X egg. A Y sperm and an X egg produce a male, while an X sperm and an X egg produce a female.”

Got that? XY=Male. XX=female. Doctors can whack off things, and use hormones to create male or female characteristics – but they cannot change the assignment of chromosomes. Once a male; always a male. So what kind of advice did “Annie” (Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar) hand out to Unknown Gender?

They correctly urged him to get more information, think it over, and not be too quick to get hormone treatment. But as a resource, they suggested the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center and the American Psychological Association. But, on reflection, where else could Unknown Gender go? Political correctness says if you think like a girl – you ARE a girl regardless of your XY assignment.

This, of course, is a denial of science – something that progressives accuse conservatives of doing with regard to climate change. Back to Wikipedia – the entry on “gender” is where you can read about all kinds of trendy PC theories about “gender fluidity.”

According to gender theorist Kate Bornstein, gender can have ambiguity and fluidity. There are two contrasting ideas regarding the definition of gender, and the intersection of both of them is definable as below: The World Health Organization defines gender as the result of socially constructed ideas about the behavior, actions, and roles a particular sex performs. The beliefs, values and attitude taken up and exhibited by them is as per the agreeable norms of the society and the personal opinions of the person is not taken into the primary consideration of assignment of gender and imposition of gender roles as per the assigned gender. Intersections and crossing of the prescribed boundaries have no place in the arena of the social construct of the term “gender”.

Chromosome assignment

All this PC thought about gender fluidity has worked its way into the taxpayer’s pocketbook. In late May, a decision came down from a board at Health and Human Services (HHS) that Medicare recipients must be allowed to apply for taxpayer-funded sex-change operations. The surgery, once considered risky and experimental, is now perfectly acceptable – just like having your hernia fixed.

The decision came in response to a lawsuit filed by a 74-year old male who, just like Unknown Gender, wants to be a lady. Media reports of this story referred to him as “she.” As we’ve said, a nip and a tuck does not change the underlying operating system and we should not use incorrect pronouns just because some dude wants to be a babe. Unknown Gender and this 74-year-old man, and even Dr. Frank-N-Furter are and will always be males. Even if the taxpayers are forced to provide them with female breasts.
