Make no mistake. The Tea Party is the base of the Republican Party.
And the Tea Party is not happy. Sarah Palin, who embodies the smaller government platform of the movement, has tossed around the idea of a third party. Most commentators – including me – have felt this is the path to a permanent Democrat majority. But Palin asks – why vote for Republicans that act like Democrats? In the Thad Cochran – Chris McDaniel senate race in Mississippi, the Republican establishment recruited Democrats, and used racial tactics to convince black Democrats to vote – not for Cochran specifically — but against the Tea Party. The Republicans, including John McCain, Mitch McConnell, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, are reprehensible. The Tea Party is most effective when it’s mad. Maybe it’s time for a third party, but it’s past time to be mad.
