Today, Barack Obama expressed contempt for the notion that the term ‘radical Islam’ should be used to define America’s enemies. In response, a radical Islamic group expressed support for his comments. In what should seem an obvious contradiction, that group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) continues to be portrayed as mainstream; it is not.

Here is Obama singing music to CAIR’s ears:

Obama’s argument, though convoluted and absurd, has been successfully used by his predecessor George W. Bush as well. That argument is that by using the term “radical Islam”, westerners help terrorists recruit. More generally, as both Obama and Bush have maintained, the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and we need to prevent them from being drawn to terrorists.

If that’s true, why does CAIR – a group that supports the terrorist group Hamas – support Obama holding that position?

That answer too, should be clear. CAIR – like Hamas – is an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. However, unlike Hamas, CAIR operates openly in the United States and must use different tactics. It must operate inside the U.S. system. As such, it cannot have people poking Islam itself and asking hard, but necessary questions. CAIR wants to keep alive the perception that it is on the peaceful side of Islam, which is why it approves of Obama – and Bush before him – drawing such a line of distinction.

In his comments above, Obama rhetorically asked what using the term, ‘Radical Islam’ would ‘accomplish’. In reality, it’s not a rhetorical question at all – as much as he’d love to have us believe it is. It’s a question with a simple answer; any enemy must be identified.

In the end, all the proof one needs to understand that Obama is wrong in his comments above is that CAIR supports his making them.
