Fox News contributor and 1984 Ronald Reagan campaign manager Ed Rollins serves as a senior advisor for Teneo Holdings, the same company at the center of a scandal involving close Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin. In 2012, Rollins was given voice on Fox News to slam Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) for raising questions about Abedin’s irrefutable ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

At the time, Abedin was working for Teneo as well; Rollins did not disclose this conflict while defending her and smearing Bachmann.

Rollins’ vitriolic screed against Bachmann appeared on the Fox News website but the network never provided Bachmann an opportunity to refute Rollins or even present her findings. Contrarily, prominent figures who derided Bachmann over her claims were given a platform on Fox. In the opinion piece, Rollins wrote:

Her (Bachmann’s) unsubstantiated charge against Abedin, a widely respected top aide to Secretary Hillary Clinton, accusing her of some sort of far-fetched connection to the Muslim brotherhood, is extreme and dishonest

…I can assure Mrs. Bachmann, that Ms. Abedin has been thru every top clearance available and would never have been given her position with any questions of her loyalty to this country…

…As a member of Congress, with a seat on the House Intelligence Committee, Mrs. Bachmann you know better. Shame on you, Michele! You should stand on the floor of the House and apologize to Huma Abedin and to Secretary Clinton and to the millions of hard working, loyal, Muslim Americans for your wild and unsubstantiated charges.

Her Muslim Brotherhood bonafides aside, the truth is that Abedin has shown disloyalty to this country by trafficking in highly confidential emails through a non-secure server. The clearance checks she allegedly went through also failed. It is Rollins who should apologize to Bachmann.

Huma is to Hillary (L) what Band has been to Bill (R)

Huma is to Hillary (L) what Band has been to Bill (R)

Teneo president and founder Doug Band is widely regarded as being to Bill Clinton what Huma is to Hillary or Valerie Jarrett is to Barack Obama – the closest and most trusted of confidantes. As a colleague of Band, Rollins surely has a conflict of interest when it comes to acknowledging that Abedin is a Muslim Brotherhood spy or even that there is sufficient evidence to dig deeper, especially when Abedin worked for a consulting firm that also employs Rollins as a senior advisor. When Rollins defended Huma, he was defending the Clintons and – perhaps more significantly – Band’s firm.

As a senior advisor, Rollins should come clean about what – if anything – he knew relative to the sweetheart (and likely illegal) deal Huma got to work at Teneo. That he remains silent is more indicting as each day passes.

Consider that Abedin allegedly started work for Teneo in her capacity as an SGE on June 3, 2012. Bachmann’s letter questioning Abedin’s Muslim Brotherhood connections was penned just ten days later. Rollins’ inexplicable diatribe in defense of Abedin was published the following month, after Bachmann’s letter became a source of controversy that was too significant for Abedin’s defenders to ignore.

Band and Abedin are themselves close. Their respective roles with Bill and Hillary helped to foster that closeness.

In a 2013 New Republic article, Alec Macgillis wrote of Band and Abedin:

Band had a key ally on Hillary’s team: Huma Abedin. Bill’s body man and Hillary’s body woman had bonded over their loyalty to their bosses. They were known to show up at parties together, which some saw as an endearing big brother–little sister dynamic, and which others interpreted as evidence that Abedin had a crush on Band. They also had an ingenious method of collecting intelligence on each other’s behalf. Abedin would sidle up to someone in Bill’s camp and, in a confiding tone, make a disparaging remark about Band. If it was reciprocated, she would relay the criticisms to Band and he would do the same for her, says someone who fell for this technique. “They had each other’s back a lot,” says the former White House colleague.

The issue of Abedin’s time with Teneo was raised by Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) exactly one year to the day after Bachmann raised the issue of Abedin’s Brotherhood ties. Though Abedin’s Brotherhood ties are far more consequential and dangerous, the more complicated Teneo angle has garnered much more media attention.

For example, it was recently reported by the Washington Post that the State Department subpoenaed the Clinton Foundation last fall. Included in the subpoena were requests for records related to Abedin, presumably because of her work for Teneo as an SGE while also at State. In a letter penned by Abedin to her State Department attorney, which was forwarded to Grassley, Abedin all but admitted to breaking the law by asserting that she worked as an SGE for more days than is allowed by law. As an employee of the executive branch, Abedin was not permitted to work as an SGE for more than 130 days. In her letter, she conceded to working in that capacity for 240 days.

Grassley has also alleged that Abedin’s dual roles with Teneo and State could create a conflict of interest.

Ditto for Rollins and his role as a Teneo advisor and a Huma Abedin defender.
