If you really want to know why the Republican Party has been so feckless since Ronald Reagan, all you need to do is look at the relationship between the Bushes and the Clintons. George W. Bush has made a point of ingratiating himself with the Clintons. Earlier this year, he embraced Hillary in a comfortable embrace at the funeral of Nancy Reagan.

Yesterday, Bush seemed more than comfortable in an embrace with Michelle Obama at the National Museum of African-American History and Culture:

Before anyone says this is nothing more than parties to rarefied air finding common ground, consider that the Bushes and Clintons go way back.

Beginning in 1983, an alliance between then vice president George H.W. Bush and Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton was forged. Bush essentially enlisted Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North as an emissary to Clinton. The intent was to manufacture weapons without serial numbers that could be flown to Central America’s Contras. The Contras were fighting the Nicaraguan Sandinistas.

The Bushes and the Clintons have had the goods on each other for decades. As such, they’ve been joined at the hip; neither party wants to disjoin; it would mean death for both.

Take a look at the clip below of then President Bill Clinton. In it, he is asked by Sarah McClendon about the operation run out of Mena during Iran-Contra. McClendon was essentially a left-wing reporter who appeared interested in helping Clinton attack Bush. In hindsight, it was an ill-advised attack from Clinton’s perspective. The 42nd President was caught off-guard:

As for Obama, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that he was a CIA asset in Pakistan sometime between 1983-85, when the Iran-Contra operation was really getting off the ground. That would have been the time that George H.W. Bush was working with North.

The Iran-Contra operation had no fewer than two fronts. One was in Pakistan. The objective was to help the Muslim Brotherhood defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan. The other front was in Honduras and Nicaragua.

The fact is that the Bushes and the Clintons are too dirty together. They’re so dirty that neither family can come clean.

George W. Bush cleared a path for Barack Obama to be elected president in 2008. In so doing, he gave a major victory to the Democrat Party. It’s obvious that the Democrat Party appreciates it, as evidenced by Hillary and Michelle being so willing to embrace him.

Bush’s willingness to reciprocate speaks even louder.
