Rubio: Defended Huma Abedin

Rubio: Defended Huma Abedin

Three years ago, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, defended Huma Abedin and rebuked Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) for raising legitimate questions about Abedin’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Now it’s coming to light that Abedin was mishandling highly sensitive and classified intelligence information while a close adviser to then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Here is audio of Rubio on a radio show in 2012 in which he defended Huma as a “patriotic American” and chastised Bachmann for questioning Abedin’s Brotherhood ties in a letter to the State Department:

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, shouldn’t Rubio have been a bit more intellectually curious?

Indeed, but he was far from the only one who came to Huma’s defense. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), who was chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence did as well. In fact, after castigating Bachmann, Rogers said:

“I have no information in my committee that would indicate that Huma is anything other than an American patriot.”

Consider Washington Post reporter Dana Milbank. In response to Bachmann’s questions about Abedin’s loyalty, Milbank implied that Abedin was little more than a gopher for Hillary. In light of these new revelations, Milbank engaged in journalistic malpractice when he wrote:

If Abedin is in fact a Muslim Brotherhood plant spreading sharia law in the United States, she’s using unorthodox methods: posing provocatively for a Vogue spread, then marrying and having the child of a Jewish congressman who sent out a photo of his genitals on Twitter. As Clinton’s personal aide, helping her boss with suits and handbags and logistics, she has not been in an ideal position to advance the alleged cause.

So Milbank’s defense of Abedin involved her being little more than a gopher for Hillary.

Note: As for the Muslim Abedin marrying a “Jewish congressman”, it can be easily explained by an insidious Muslim Brotherhood tactic known as Muruna.

Fast forward to today. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said the FBI wants to indict Abedin:

“I think the FBI director would like to indict both Huma and Hillary as we speak.”

The Hill takes it a bit further, quoting an expert on how classified information should be handled as saying Huma is perhaps more culpable than her boss:

The former secretary of State did not appear to send most of the emails now marked classified. Instead, they were largely sent or forwarded to her by aides.

“It’d be a lot harder to make a criminal charge for having received [classified] information,” said Bradley Moss, a lawyer who specializes in national security and protection of classified information.

“If I’m in Clinton’s campaign, I’m more worried if I am Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin or Jake Sullivan than if I’m Hillary Clinton,” Moss said. Mills, Abedin and Sullivan were all top aides of Clinton’s at the State Department. Abedin and Sullivan continue to hold high positions in Clinton’s presidential campaign.

“The sloppiness and the complete fundamental failure to comply with any aspect of operational and informational security is what puts them at risk,” Moss said. “You just can’t do that that many times and not expect to find yourself in trouble.”

If – as evidence strongly suggests – Abedin is a spy, “sloppiness” would not be the correct word, unless it’s attributed to individuals like Rubio, who defended Abedin.

Issa, who chaired the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that investigated Benghazi, has endorsed Rubio for president. So has Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who chairs the House Benghazi committee and must know about Abedin’s Brotherhood ties.

When coupled with the overwhelming evidence that Abedin is also a spy for the Muslim Brotherhood, there are some extremely humiliating truths for any government official(s) charged with giving her clearance to handle that information in the first place.

In fact, one of the issues raised in the wake of Bachmann’s inquiry was how Abedin was ever given that clearance. This leads to her Form 86, a series of exhaustive, personal questions one must answer prior to getting access to the very secrets Abedin is alleged to have mishandled (as a spy, she didn’t mishandle them; she would have intentionally compromised them).

Based on the verifiable affiliations Abedin has – through her family – with the Muslim Brotherhood, she never should have been given that security clearance after completing the Form 86. Why? Because the information is so sensitive that no one who handles it should have any such conflicts of interest. In short, guilt by association is irrelevant.

Based on Hillary’s track record of doing what she wants and blowing off rules that should apply to her just as they do to everyone else, it’s likely that she strong-armed officials responsible for denying Abedin’s security clearance. Those officials would be on the hook for bending to her will.

We may be getting closer to why Abedin’s Brotherhood ties are such a taboo subject.

That’s no excuse and Rubio is doing a grave disservice to the American people by not righting his egregious wrong.
