The Democratic Party is taking a lot of flak for the circus surrounding the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. They risk being branded as a party of fools – and if that happens, the brand will be hard to change.

Of course, Democrats support abortion on demand and would be expected to oppose Kavanaugh.

But the constant interruptions at the hearings, led by Senator Kamala Harris, and the goofy Spartacus moment from senator Cory Booker made them look foolish.

Add to that the planned protests –and unfounded charges from Christine Blasey Ford – and this Party is playing with fire.

Stories and columns are popping up all over about “what the Democrats have become” and they are not pretty.

Both parties have their whack jobs – but the Democrats are unhinged over their tactics to bork Kavanaugh.

They could face a major backlash.

We’ve made the point in this space that politics is simply politics to Republicans – but it’s war to Democrats. It’s been like that ever since the fight over Roe v Wade and later the nomination of Robert Bork which was derailed by lady-killer Edward M. Kennedy.

Typically, Republican senators grumble a bit about left-wing activist judges when they are nominated, and then vote for them anyway. The reason is that a president – any president – ought to be able to have his picks approved if they are qualified.

But so long as there is a pro-life movement, the Left will fight for justices that will show fealty to Roe v Wade. The risk for them is that if they look like fools in the process of trying to stop a nomination, they may lose more ground at the polls.

Here is a sample of blowback that we used on today’s radio show.

Daniel Henninger, in a Wall Street Journal column entitled “What Democrats Have Become” says Democrats think they have found a weapon [baseless last-minute accusations] against which there can be no defense. To them, he writes, Kavanaugh is not much more than a casualty of war.

Paul Bedard, in the Washington Examiner, writes in “Media, ABC, PBS use Facebook to beg other Kavanaugh accusers to talk, ‘Truth will emerge,’” that liberal media outlets are going online to try to build a “dragnet” for other women who might be inclined to make more accusations. As he shows in the column, certain media figures don’t even pretend to be unbiased.

Michael W. Chapman writes for CNS News in a column called “Broaddrick: FBI Probe Ford Allegation? Then ‘Investigate My rape Allegations’ Against Clinton” that the woman who credibly accused Bill Clinton of rape has never gotten a fair and thorough investigation. Note that when this allegedly happened, neither was a teenager. Broaddrick was 35 and Bill Clinton was 31 – but Dems did not care, nor did the media.

Travis County Republican Chairman Matt Mackowiak is also a columnist for the Washington Times. His column, “Feinstein owes it to all of us to answer Kavanaugh queries,” lists the outrageous things that Senator Dianne Feinstein has done with regard to this case – and demands that she answer for them. He says that she should explain why she did not raise the abuse allegation to Kavanaugh when they met one-on-one, nor in pubic or private sessions of the confirmation hearings.

In the New York Post, Sohrab Ahmari writes a column, “The Drive to sink Kavanaugh is liberal totalitarianism,” in which he warns that Democrats are bringing the United States a step closer to a new, liberal style of totalitarianism, in which ethical norms and moral principles and even the truth are all subjugated to political ends. He says that the verb “to Kavanaugh” must not be permitted to enter our lexicon as a step to “unfreedom.”

These columns are just a sample. You could wallpaper a shopping mall with a printout of all the articles are about how amazingly stupid Democrats have been acting.

How will this affect them in the midterms?

That’s the $787-billion dollar question.

I took a call this morning from a young man who said he had always assumed he was a Democrat, but the way the Dems are acting has convinced him to vote Republican.

For the record, I do not believe this little episode with Kavanaugh is helping Beto O’Rourke one bit in his fight to unseat Senator Ted Cruz. O’Rourke has already signed onto too many loopy things that today’s Dems are backing – such as kneeling during the National Anthem at NFL games.

The trend in America right now – think Nike – is away from patriotism and love of country. That will change if we are to survive, as we cannot be a nation of self-loathing leftists. O’Rourke is simply on the wrong side of this as is Nike.

There’s no need here to list all the left-wing things that liberals stand for.

Abortion is the one in question when it comes to the Supreme Court – and that means the taking of a viable human life – stopping a beating heat. That’s what this is all about. But that’s under the surface.

What’s right in our faces is the fact that Democrats are acting like loons – as if they are as brainless as the zombies in an old Bob Hope movie. Would you want to be a part of that party? I know I wouldn’t.
