When I go to a concert, I go for the music – or perhaps because I like a certain artist. So the concept of “shut up and sing” is popular among those of us that want to be entertained.

Imagine my surprise when I got an email from the room-rental people at Airbnb that was a direct denigration of President Donald Trump and his travel ban.

I don’t much care what the honchos at Airbnb think about the travel ban.

They can think anything they want. What I want from them is a convenient place to stay that’s safe and within my budget. That’s it.

I depend on the President to ensure the safety of the country. I don’t think Airbnb has any expertise along those lines, and no constitutional mandate.

To say the least, I was somewhat put off by Airbnb’s emailed protest to the point that I think I’d prefer regular hotels in the future – unless Airbnb stays out of politics.

Airbnb should have stayed silent and concentrated on what they do best.

But no. They jumped right into the fray and sent an email that not only opposed the Trump policy – but also pledged to fight the President’s ban. Here is the full text:

Hi Lynn,

The US Supreme Court decided to uphold the travel ban. We are profoundly disappointed by the Court’s decision. The travel ban is a policy that goes against our mission and values — to restrict travel based on a person’s nationality or religion is wrong.

And while this news is a setback, we will continue the fight with organizations that are helping those impacted. Airbnb will be matching donations to the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) up to a total of $150,000 through September 30, 2018 to support their work advocating for systemic change and legal pathways for those affected by the travel ban. If you’d like to join us, you can donate here.

We believe that travel is a transformative and powerful experience and that building bridges between cultures and communities creates a more innovative, collaborative and inspired world. At Airbnb, we are so grateful to our community who will continue to open doors around the world so that together, we can travel forward.

Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk

It’s quite admirable for people to get involved in politics and fight for their cause.

The problem here is that Brian, Joe, and Nathan decided to do it through their company. Did they think (as liberals sometimes do) that ALL Americans would agree with them? How did they think Trump got elected?

I was favorably disposed to Airbnb until I got this email.

I had rented a room through Airbnb and, due to a snafu, entirely of my own making, I had to cancel. My rep at Airbnb was very nice and worked to get my refund and make sure I was happy.

I was. Then, they jumped into politics and ruined all that. Now, I do not think of them favorably – and I’ll bet plenty of others don’t as well.

Here is what I sent them in reply:

The Supreme Court reaffirmed the power a president has — all presidents— to keep our country secure and safe. This ruling was about the Constitution — not about Mr. Trump.

You guys need to rent rooms and keep your politics to yourself. Otherwise, I’m done with you.

This is going on my Facebook page and my radio show.

Did I over-react? Possibly.

I went to a Mary Travers concert at Waco Hall years ago, and had to sit and listen to her rail against William Rehnquist. I had gone to the concert to hear her sing “Leaving On a Jet Plane” and “Blowing In the Wind.”

She may have. All I remember is the rant against the Justice.

I should have known. Peter, Paul & Mary were always leftists and they were also activists. If I go to a Lee Greenwood concert, I’m likely to hear “God Bless the USA” because that is his signature song.

Most Hollywood types are leftists and yet we still go see their movies, hoping we won’t be subjected to politics.

When I go to a movie, or watch network television, or CNN, I know what I’m probably gong to hear.  I just never expected such an anti-Trump email from Airbnb and, right or wrong, I’m still steamed about it.
