Watching the two most recent Hillary Clinton scandals unfold (private email account and Clinton Foundation taking foreign donations) is very instructive when processing the behavior of Clinton apparatchiks James Carville, Lanny Davis, and David Brock. All three are using the same playbook.

  1. Concede nothing.
  2. Accuse those who raise questions.
  3. Conflate with unrelated topics.
  4. Ignore facts.
  5. Express outrage.

A question that will likely never be asked of them – let alone ever answered – is:

If either Bill or Hillary ever did commit a gross transgression, would you admit it?

That question is largely rhetorical after watching how these apparatchiks respond when there is even a scintilla of evidence that a Clinton may have committed wrongdoing. Carville provides the most recent example, in an interview with left-wing media personality Andrea Mitchell.

In a clear case of ‘thou doth protest too much’, it’s obvious that Carville:

  1. Has no interest in conceding anything, even the obvious.
  2. Blames the New York Times for printing ‘right-wing’ talking points.
  3. Magically introduces Dick Cheney into the argument.
  4. Completely ignores the 2009 law that prohibits Hillary from doing what she did.
  5. Attempts to intimidate with outrage that this is even being discussed.

To understand just how out-of-bounds that is, even Mitchell is apoplectic over Carville’s behavior:

Another example comes courtesy of longtime Clinton loyalist and lawyer Lanny Davis from a day earlier on Fox News Sunday. He follows the same playbook, although Davis is more artful in not expressing outrage. As was the case with Carville, Davis chooses the route of the non sequitir by introducing Jeb Bush into the conversation. Like Mitchell, Wallace is visibly disturbed by Davis’ obfuscation and refusal to concede basic facts:

Last week, on Morning Joe, Media Matters founder David Brock followed the same script, blaming the New York Times and refusing to concede basic facts. To illustrate just how bad this was, even left-wing co-host Mika Brzezinski couldn’t believe the straight-faced denials from Brock. One of the panelists, Washington Post writer Bob Woodward – hardly a conservative ideologue – almost became speechless in response to Brock’s behavior:
